Cold start strategy and system for gasoline direct injection compression ignition engine
A method for starting a compression ignition engine having at least one cylinder with a reciprocating piston located therein, an intake valve configured to control the intake of air to an intake port of the cylinder and an exhaust valve configured to control the expulsion of gas from an exhaust port of the cylinder. The method includes the steps of: cranking the engine, conditioning intake air at the intake port of the cylinder to raise the temperature of air in the cylinder, controlling a valve timing the intake valve and/or the exhaust valve to allow the piston to compress the air within the cylinder, thereby increasing the temperature of the air within the cylinder, and injecting fuel into the cylinder when the air within the cylinder has been heated to a temperature sufficient to support compression ignition of a gasoline and air mixture within the cylinder.
Vehicle control device
The present disclosure provides a vehicle control device including: a fluid circuit, mutually connecting an engine, a vehicle cabin interior heat exchanger for discharging heat into a vehicle cabin interior, and a heat discharging heat exchanger included in a refrigerant cycle in which a refrigerant is compressed and expanded by a compressor, and in which a fluid circulates; and a control unit for controlling the compressor and the engine such that, in a case in which engine warm-up operation ending conditions have not been established and in a case in which predetermined stopping conditions, other than the warm-up operation ending conditions, for stopping engine idling have been established, the compressor is operated while the engine is idling so as to release heat from the refrigerant from the heat discharging heat exchanger and to heat the fluid.
CRANKING PROCEDURE FOR A FOUR-STROKE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE WITH A CRANKSHAFT MOUNTED ELECTRIC TURNING MACHINE
An internal combustion engine has one or more combustion chambers defined by one of more cylinders, corresponding pistons, and a cylinder head. A crankshaft is operatively connected to the pistons and to an electric turning machine. To start the engine, the electric turning machine rotates the crankshaft in a first direction toward a reversal point corresponding to a local maximum drag torque of the internal combustion engine, this rotation being made without rotating the crankshaft beyond the reversal point. The electric turning machine then rotates the crankshaft in a second direction opposite from the first direction, a momentum impressed on the crankshaft by compression obtained when rotating in the first direction increasing a speed of the crankshaft in the second direction. Thereafter, fuel is injected in one of the combustion chambers in which the corresponding piston first reaches a top dead center position and the fuel is ignited.
Vehicle start and stop control based on seat heater actuation
Systems and methods for managing auto start of a vehicle during an auto-stop condition may include determining an operational status of a vehicle climate control system; receiving a target air outlet temperature from the vehicle climate control system; receiving data indicating a state of a heated seat of the vehicle; and inhibiting a start-vehicle command to restart the vehicle because of a cabin heating requirement when the data indicates that the heated seat of the vehicle is activated.
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CONTROLLING START OF MILD HYBRID VEHICLE
A method for controlling a start of a mild hybrid vehicle that includes an engine, a starter-generator starting the engine or generating electricity by an output of the engine, a starter starting the engine, and a battery supplying electric power to the starter-generator may include: determining, by a controller configured for controlling an operation of the vehicle, whether a start of the vehicle is requested; checking, by the controller, current limit data of the battery when the start of the vehicle is requested; checking, by the controller, start torque current data of the starter-generator according to state data of the vehicle; comparing, by the controller, the current limit data with the start torque current data; and starting, by the controller, the engine using the starter-generator or the starter according to a result of the comparing, by the controller, the current limit data with the start torque current data.
METHODS AND SYSTEM FOR OPERATING A VEHICLE HAVING A DC/DC CONVERTER
A method for operating a vehicle that includes a DC/DC converter is described. In one example, the method includes adjusting an output voltage of the DC/DC converter to increase torque of a belt integrated starter/generator. The output voltage of the DC/DC converter may be adjusted before and during engine cranking.

ENGINE IDLING REDUCTION SYSTEM
In one aspect, a method for controlling an engine system includes starting the engine system, activating an engine idling reduction mode allowing automatic shutdown and automatic restarting of an engine, disallowing automatic shutdown of the engine within the engine idling reduction mode if a state of charge of a voltage source is below a charge limit for permitting automatic shutdown of the engine, and modifying the charge limit as a function of a number of starts of the engine. Other aspects include a method for disallowing automatic shutdown of an engine if a voltage source has not achieved a fully charged condition, a method of triggering an automatic restarting of an engine, if the engine is automatically shutdown, based on at least two separate indicators of engine temperature, and a method of disallowing automatic shutdown of an engine if ambient temperature is less than a predetermined value.
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CONTROLLING COMPRESSION IGNITION ENGINE
A system for controlling a compression ignition engine includes: a speed obtaining section which detects or estimates an engine speed achieved by combustion in an n-th cycle; and an injection amount setting section which sets, in a start period after the start of cranking, a fuel injection amount to be injected by injectors in an (n+1)-th cycle. If the engine speed achieved by the combustion in the n-th cycle falls in the resonance range, the injection amount setting section sets the fuel injection amount for an (n+1)-th cycle to be larger than the fuel injection amount injected when the engine speed is higher than or equal to an upper limit of the resonance range.
