Belt-integrated-starter-generator-assisted engine shutdown
A vehicle includes an engine including a crank shaft; a battery; a belt-integrated starter generator (BISG) mechanically coupled to the crank shaft and configured to generate electric power from motion of the engine to charge the battery; and a controller configured to operate the BISG to apply a load to the crank shaft to slow the engine and capture electric power for storage in the battery, wherein an initial magnitude of the load is proportional to a temperature of the engine, responsive to a speed of the BISG or engine achieving a predetermined non-zero threshold, remove the load from the crank shaft, and bring the engine to a stop.
Engine starting apparatus
In an engine starting apparatus, a starter control unit is configured to, upon command to start the engine, put a starter in a drive ON state to begin cranking of the engine and then put the starter in a drive OFF state at a predetermined timing. The starter control unit is configured to, when acceleration is requested within a predetermined time period from the command to start the engine, keep the starter in the drive ON state even after the time when the starter would be put in the drive OFF state without the acceleration request within the predetermined time period, and drive the starter to torque-assist the engine, thereby performing an assist mode in which both the engine) and the starter serve as drive sources for driving a vehicle.
System and method for controlling a stop-start system for a vehicle engine
A start-stop vehicle includes an engine configured to automatically stop and start during travel. The vehicle further includes a gear lever, a brake pedal, and a controller. The controller is programmed to restart the engine or inhibit restarting of the engine depending upon one or more sets of conditions of the vehicle. A method is also present for operating the vehicle based upon the one or more sets of conditions.
Vehicle Control Device and Vehicle Control Method
Provided is a vehicle control device with which improved fuel economy and lowered exhaust gas emissions can be effectively achieved without adversely affecting the driver when traveling while following a leading vehicle. The present invention has: a following-determination means that, during travel while following a leading vehicle, determines, on the basis of the speed of the host vehicle, the speed of the leading vehicle, and the distance from the leading vehicle, whether the host vehicle will be able to follow the leading vehicle by coasting; and an idle stop determination means that, when the following-determination means has determined that the host vehicle will be able to follow the leading vehicle by coasting, and the driving/travel state of the host vehicle satisfies other traveling idle stop criteria, determines that a traveling idle stop should be performed; and is provided with a determination criteria updating means for updating the determination criteria for the idle stop determination means in regard to criteria such as the leading vehicle characteristics, road surface conditions, and weather. In the event that it has been determined, from the determination conditions that have been updated in regard to the leading vehicle characteristics, etc., that following by coasting is possible, a control to shut off the on-board engine is performed.
METHODS AND SYSTEM FOR INHIBITING AUTOMATIC ENGINE STOPPING
A method and system for operating a vehicle that includes a plurality of engine starting devices and an internal combustion engine is described. In one example, the method determines whether or not to inhibit automatic engine stopping so that a lifespan of an engine starting device may be extended. In one example, the inhibiting is based on a ratio of an actual total number of engine starts generated via the engine starting device to an actual total distance traveled by the vehicle since the engine starting device was installed.
DRIVER ASSISTANCE APPARATUS AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF
A driver assistance apparatus for a vehicle may be provided with Idle Stop and Go (ISG), and the driver assistance apparatus may include: an interface configured to receive information; and a processor. The processor may be configured to: receive, through the interface, driving information of the vehicle; and based on a determination that the vehicle is stopped in a first state in which the ISG is enabled or that the vehicle is stopped in a second state in which a gearshift of the vehicle is engaged in a Park (P) mode and an engine of the vehicle is turned on, perform a stopping operation for the vehicle based on the driving information of the vehicle.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLING RESTART OF VEHICLE HAVING ISG-AUTO HOLD SYSTEM
A method for controlling restart of a vehicle is provided. The method includes allowing the vehicle to enter into an ISG state and allowing the vehicle to actuate the Auto Hold. Whether the vehicle fulfills a condition for releasing the Auto Hold is then determined and operation of the Auto Hold is released in response to determining that the vehicle fulfills the condition for releasing the Auto Hold. Additionally, the method includes determining whether the vehicle fulfills a condition for releasing the ISG and releasing the ISG and restarting an engine in response to determining that the vehicle fulfills the condition for releasing the ISG.
METHOD FOR OPERATING AN AUTOMATIC START/STOP SYSTEM IN A VEHICLE UTILIZING A TORQUE CONVERTER
A system and method for operating an automatic start/stop system in a motor vehicle having an internal combustion engine, an automatic transmission and a torque converter with an impeller disconnect clutch is disclosed. A controller may implement an engine start/stop system by, at appropriate times, stopping engine by halting fuel and restarting engine when propulsion is needed. During an engine start/stop event, the engine is automatically shut down and the impeller clutch of the torque converter may be disengaged to decouple the impeller and the engine to provide for fuel and emissions savings.
CONTROLLING ENGINE AUTO-START WHILE IN REVERSE
A stop/start hybrid vehicle includes an engine configured for stopping and restarting during travel, a multiple-ratio transmission, a brake pedal, and an electronic parking brake. The transmission can be shifted into reverse gear either when the brake pedal is applied or unapplied. At least one controller is programmed to control the vehicle under these scenarios. If the engine is off and the brake pedal is applied when the transmission is shifted into reverse, the controller restarts the engine. If the engine is off and the brake pedal is unapplied when the transmission is shifted into reverse, the controller inhibits the engine from restarting until the brake pedal is applied. The controller can also be programmed to apply the electronic parking brake while the brake pedal remains unapplied after a predetermined time from the transmission being shifted into the reverse gear.
VEHICLE, CONTROL DEVICE AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF
A vehicle includes a first sensor, a second sensor, an engine, a fuel supplying device, and a control device. The control device includes a first sensor detecting unit, a second sensor detecting unit, a vehicle status detecting unit, and a control unit. The control unit is switchable among a regular state, a start-stop enabling state, and an idling-stop state. The control unit switches into the start-stop enabling state from the regular state once the control unit determines that the first sensor and the second sensor are both triggered. The control unit further switches into the idling-stop state and controls the fuel supplying device to stop supplying fuel once the control unit determines that the vehicle status meets an idling-stop condition.
