An ice skate attachment assembly for converting a single runner blade ice skate into as multiple runner blade ice skate is provided. The assembly includes a skate guard having a bottom surface and including a channel for receiving and supporting the single runner blade of the ice skate. The assembly further includes at least two multi-runner blades secured with the skate guard and being laterally spaced from one another on either lateral side of the skate guard with each of the multi-runner blades extending below the bottom surface of the skate guard to an ice-engaging edge.

The base can be configured to attach to a bottom of a boot, the blade housing can be centered on the base and configured to house a center blade, and the plurality of support mounts can be comprised of a plurality of side rail housings at non-center locations on the base that are configured to house a corresponding side rails.

The blade housing includes a mounting portion attached to the sole and a blade receptacle portion. The blade is removably connected to the blade receptacle portion. The projections project from the blade receptacle portion adjacent the blade and are designed to provide traction on an ice surface upon disconnection of the blade. Alternatively, the ice hockey includes a backup blade projecting from the blade housing next to and parallel to the blade, or a blade extension projecting from and integrally formed with the blade housing next to and parallel to the blade.
