Self-tuning wave energy converter (WEC) controller for changing sea states
Systems and methods for a WEC controller that uses a self-tuning proportional-integral control law prescribing motor torques to maximize electrical power generation and automatically tune the controller to maximize power absorption. In an embodiment, the controller may be part of any resonant WEC system. The control law relies upon an identified model of device intrinsic impedance to generate a frequency-domain estimate of the wave-induced excitation force and measurements of device velocities. The control law was tested in irregular sea-states that evolved over hours (a rapid, but realistic time-scale) and that changed instantly (an unrealistic scenario to evaluate controller response).

PIVOTING AUV/UUV DOCK FOR USE WITH A WAVE ENERGY CONVERTER
An AUV/UUV docking station is provided that is tethered to a wave energy converter that is in turn tethered to a flotation buoy. The AUV/UUV docking station has a cone for directing an AUV/UUV into a charging dock that is rotatable between a horizontal docking position and a vertical charging position such that in the vertical position the docking station and docked AUV/UUV have a reduced profile so as not to interfere with the operation of the wave energy converter. Energy from the wave energy converter is directed to the dock to charge the AUV/UUV.
UNDERWATER WATER TRANSFER APPARATUS
Disclosed is an underwater water transfer apparatus deployable within a water body. The apparatus includes a closed receptacle suspended underwater at a first depth, the receptacle adapted to receive ambient water at the first depth therewithin as a result of either the relative movement of the receptacle with respect to the ambient water or vice versa, or both, a tube in fluid communication with the receptacle, and a heat exchanger submerged at a second depth. The heat exchanger extends from an extremity of the tube so as to alter the temperature of the incoming water from the tube, before being released at the second depth, to be closer to that of ambient water at the second depth.
