Reduced profile wind tower system for land-based and offshore applications
11384735 · 2022-07-12 ·

A reduced profile wind tower system includes a slim cylindrical spinal core extending up vertically from a foundation. A turbine nacelle is mounted on a top end of the core. Wind turbine blades extend out from the nacelle. A plurality of axially loaded tubular arms, braced by the core, are spaced around the core and link to the core through continuous shear wings or discrete bracket assemblies. The tubular arms and shear wings extend up from said foundation. The tubular arms can be set either vertically or slightly sloped; cables may substitute for the tubular arms and a pontoon may substitute for an on ground foundation.

A method is disclosed for controlling a wind turbine, where the wind turbine includes with a tower and a rotor and comprises having at least one rotor blade with an adjustable blade pitch angle, and where a change in a power value takes place in a time interval (TE) and by the control of one or more operating parameters which determine power to be fed in by the wind turbine. The method comprises determining a parameterized time function of a tower deflection for the time interval (TE). A series of boundary conditions are defined for the parameterized time function of the tower deflection and a thrust of the rotor of the wind turbine is determined for the parameterized time function of the tower deflection. A function is then calculated for controlling the one or more operating parameters from the thrust of the rotor.

A METHOD OF BALANCING TURBINE BLADES
20210277874 · 2021-09-09 ·

There is disclosed a method of balancing a set of first and second modular blade sections for a set of blades of a rotor of a wind turbine. The method comprises determining a mass moment of the first and second blade sections, the mass moment being deter-mined about an axis equivalent to an axis of rotation of a hub of the turbine when the blade section is assembled onto the hub. A plurality of blade section groups 10 are defined, each comprising a first blade section of the set and at least one second blade section of the set, each blade section group having a blade section group mass moment about the axis. The first blade section and the at least one second blade section in each group are selected so as to satisfy a minimised total ballast condition, to minimise balancing ballast to be added to the set as a whole, or a minimised 15 ballasting difference condition, to minimise the difference in balancing ballast added to different blades, or both.
