Wind turbine nacelle and tower redesign for extreme loads and remote servicing and surveillance drone
11542923 · 2023-01-03 ·

A wind turbine system able to withstand up to 150 mph winds, comprising the electricity generating components moved from the nacelle to the top of the tower, positioned vertically, and comprising: a main-shaft bearing; a gearbox; a brake assembly; a high-speed shaft; a generator; and an electrical control cabinet. The purpose of positioning in the tower is to protect the components from high winds, tornados, etc. and to regulate the rotation of the propellers to make more electricity. The turbine can be easily repaired onsite by removing covers on the upper tower; and with snap in replacement parts. Drone, which are stored in the top horizontal housing, can surveil and protect the turbine and the surrounding area. And, solar panels on the sides and/or cover of the top horizontal housing provide energy to the turbine in low and no wind conditions.

A NACELLE FOR A WIND TURBINE

A wind turbine nacelle configured for mounting on a wind turbine tower and for supporting a rotor-supporting assembly, the nacelle comprising a main unit, and at least one auxiliary unit. The auxiliary unit accommodates a at least one component, e.g. a converter or transformer. To provide efficient transportation, lower costs and easier assembly, the operative component is suspended directly on the main unit.

A nacelle cover (100) for a wind turbine includes an elongate housing (105) and the front end (107) of the housing (105) is mounted on a bed plate frame (420) which is affixed to the tower (122), the bed plate frame (420) supporting at least one part of a drive train (124) of the wind turbine. At least one machinery component (125) is mounted on the housing (105) at a position laterally spaced from the bed plate frame (420) in a longitudinal direction along the housing (105). The housing (105) includes a structural tube (128) which functions as a vertically displaceable cantilever beam carrying the load of the at least one machinery component (125) mounted thereon.

SUPPORT ASSEMBLY
20220397101 · 2022-12-15 ·

A support assembly for carrying at least a part of the load of a drive train, a canopy structure and/or other components arranged inside a nacelle of a wind turbine includes a bed frame structurally establishing a connection between the drive train and/or the nacelle and a tower of the wind turbine, and a support structure coupled to the bed frame configured to support at least a part of the load of the canopy structure and/or components arranged inside the nacelle, wherein the support assembly further includes a coupling means to couple the support structure to the bed frame, wherein the coupling means includes a plurality of pins configured to be inserted in insertion holes.

Utilization of a Composite Nacelle Cover as the Load-Carrying Structure for Main Machinery Components for a Wind Turbine
20220389914 · 2022-12-08 ·

A composite nacelle cover (1;22) equipped with main machinery components (9a;9b;10) for a wind turbine has a composite wall (3,4,5,6,7) constituting a first load-carrying structure for at least one component of a first part (9a;9b) of the main machinery components. The length of the conventional load-carrying frame can be reduced and a lot of weight of the overall nacelle structure be eliminated.

Lifting apparatus for an offshore wind turbine

An offshore wind turbine including a tower, a transition piece and a lifting apparatus for operating a lift inside the wind turbine is provided. The tower includes an inner platform at the bottom end of the tower. The transition piece includes a hang-off platform. The lifting apparatus includes a plurality of wires, a plurality of tensioners, one or more brackets attached to the inner platform and movable between at least a first operative configuration in which the plurality of tensioners are attached to the one or more brackets and the lift is movable from the first station at the inner platform towards the upper end of the tower, a second retracted configuration in which one or more brackets allows the lift to move between the first and the second station, the plurality of tensioners being attached to the hang-off platform.

System and method for coupling a hub to a main shaft of a wind turbine

A system and method are provided for coupling a hub to a main shaft of a wind turbine. Accordingly, a plurality of fasteners are arranged within corresponding through holes of the hub of a wind turbine. At least one circumferential ridge segment is arranged radially adjacent to the head sections of the plurality of fasteners so as to resist a torque applied to each of the plurality of fasteners. A connection mechanism is utilized to secure the plurality of fasteners within the plurality of through holes so as to limit an axial translation of the plurality of fasteners prior to the coupling of the hub to the main shaft.

Enclosure with vortex-induced vibration suppression function and method for suppressing vortex-induced vibration

An enclosure with a vortex-induced vibration suppression function and a method for suppressing vortex-induced vibration are provided. The enclosure is provided with suction through holes extending through a peripheral wall thereof, the suction through holes are distributed in a circumferential direction of the enclosure. The enclosure is further provided with a suction apparatus, and the suction apparatus can perform suctioning to the suction through holes from outside to inside, to restrain a boundary layer at an outer surface of the enclosure from being detached from the outer surface. By the suctioning, the boundary layer can be “adsorbed” on the outer surface of the tower, thereby restraining or directly preventing the boundary layer from being detached from the outer surface of the tower, and reducing or eliminating the cause of the vertex-induced vibration.
