Methods and systems are provided for mitigating noise generated by a compressor operating at low flow rates. A swirl device with two concentric flow passages upstream of the compressor directs intake air flow to the compressor through two different flow paths, depending on air flow rates. Angled swirl vanes at an outlet of the swirl device pre-whirl the air flowing to the compressor to reduce noise generation at low air flow rates.

The pump is changeable between a first configuration in which the first and second impeller are arranged in parallel to provide a high pumping capacity, and a second configuration in which the first and second impeller are arranged in series to provide a pump with less pumping capacity.

A process and apparatus for cooling a heat generating component of a vehicle comprises a first pump switchable between a normal demand mode and a high demand mode. Coolant is pumped from the first pump through a cooling loop between a heat dissipating device and the heat generating component at a normal demand flowrate in the normal demand mode. Switching the first pump to the high demand mode diverts the coolant to a second pump. The second pump pumping the coolant through the cooling loop at a high demand flowrate.
