Seal arrangement for superchargers
Disclosed is an embodiment of a dual seal arrangement for the high-speed shaft of a supercharger with a centrifugal compressor and a mechanical speed step-down transmission to the shaft. A ring located about the shaft splits the rotational speed of the shaft between two seals, so that each seal spins at a speed of roughly half the speed of the shaft. The arrangement can also be used to split the shaft speed between two bearings in the same manner. The high-speed shaft may also have a turbine attached, to form a driven turbocharger.
FLUID PUMPING SYSTEM
Fluid pumping system for a vehicle with an internal combustion engine, the fluid pumping system comprising: a housing; an electric motor; a planetary gear with a first member that can be driven by the internal combustion engine, a second member driven by the electric motor, and a third member; and a pump driven by the third element of the planetary gear set, the housing being closed by a pump flange and a pulley with pulley cover, wherein at least the pulley and/or a ring gear disposed in the pulley is made of plastic.
Epicyclic drive for gas turbine engine lubricant pump
A gas turbine engine includes a fan drive turbine driving a fan rotor through a main gear reduction. A primary lubricant system supplies lubricant to the main gear reduction. An auxiliary oil pump supplies oil to the main gear reduction. An auxiliary pump epicyclic gear train drives the auxiliary pump when the fan rotor is rotating in either direction. The main gear reduction is separate from the auxiliary pump epicyclic gear train.
JET PUMP SYSTEM AND METHOD WITH IMPROVED EFFICENCY
The present disclosure is of a jet pump system, and reverse power generation system and other desirable applications consisting of an impeller with inlet vortex vanes and outlet vortex vanes. The inlet vortex vane induces rotational movement on mass entering the impeller inlet. The outlet vortex vanes remove swirl from mass exiting the impeller outlet. Embodiments include a jet pump system involving a pulley and belt which can allow for obstruction free movement of mass. In another embodiment the impeller is connected via an electromagnetic connection. In another embodiment the impeller acts as a rim-driven generator of electrical power. In another embodiment the drive pulley is a centrifugal clutch or uses a chain sprocket or tandem jet system in series.
Direct-drive system for cooling system fans, exhaust blowers and pumps
The present invention is directed to a load bearing direct-drive system and a variable process control system for efficiently managing the operation of fans in a cooling system such as a wet-cooling tower, air-cooled heat exchanger (ACHE), HVAC system, blowers and centrifugal blowers, mechanical towers or chiller systems. In one embodiment, the load bearing direct-drive system comprises a load bearing torque multiplier device having an output rotatable shaft connected to a fan, and a load bearing motor comprising a rotatable shaft that drives the load bearing torque multiplier device.
Variable speed transmission with auxiliary driver and system using same
The system comprises: a main driver configured for rotating at a substantially constant rotational speed; a rotating load configured to be driven into rotation by the main driver; a controller, for controllably adjusting a load rotational speed; a variable speed transmission, arranged between the main driver and the load and comprised of a speed summing gear arrangement having a first input shaft, a second input shaft and an output shaft; an auxiliary driver, mechanically coupled to the second input shaft of the speed summing gear arrangement. The first input shaft of the speed summing gear arrangement is drivingly coupled to the main driver. The output shaft of the speed summing gear arrangement is drivingly coupled to the rotating load. The speed of the output shaft is a combination of a speed of the main driver and of a speed of the auxiliary driver.
Turbofan engine bearing and gearbox arrangement
A turbofan engine comprising a fan shaft configured to rotate about an axis of the engine. A fan drive gear system is configured to drive the fan shaft. A first spool comprises a high pressure turbine and a high pressure compressor. A second spool comprises a lower pressure turbine, a lower pressure compressor, and a shaft coupling the lower pressure turbine to the intermediate pressure compressor. The engine has a plurality of main bearings. The lower pressure compressor has a plurality of disks and a forward hub mounted to a forwardmost disk.
Planetary gear device with an oil supply appliance, gas turbine engine with a planetary gear device and method for manufacturing a vane pump
A planetary gearbox device, a gas turbine engine with a planetary gearbox device, and a method for producing a scoop pump. The planetary gearbox device includes an oil supply appliance, wherein the oil supply appliance has a ring-shaped scoop pump that is connected to the rotatable shaft of the planetary gearbox device and an oil supply fixedly arranged at the housing and by which oil is supplied to the scoop pump. The scoop pump has multiple blades that extend in a circumferentially arranged manner and extend from a radially outer area in the direction of a radially inner area. The blades delimit grooves extending in the circumferential direction in the radial direction and respectively form a groove base of the grooves. The oil is conducted from the oil supply to outlets via which oil is conducted out of the scoop pump in the radial direction outwards.
Electromagnetic anti-windmilling system
A gas turbine engine including a compressor has a first compressor section and a second compressor section, a combustor fluidly connected to the compressor, and a turbine fluidly connected to the combustor. The turbine includes a first turbine section and a second turbine section. A first shaft connects the first compressor section and the first turbine section. A second shaft connects the second compressor section and the second turbine section. A fan is connected to the first shaft via a geared architecture. The first shaft includes at least one magnetic section. An electromagnet is disposed radially outward of the first shaft at an axial location of the at least one magnetic section, relative to an axis defined by the gas turbine engine.
Traction drive fuel cell pump
Disclosed is an air pump for a fuel cell that utilizes a speed-reduction traction drive so that a low speed electric motor can be used to drive a high-speed rotodynamic compressor. The rotodynamic compressor is an efficient air pump, but operates at high speeds that would require a specialized high-speed electric motor. The speed-reduction traction drive couples to the compressor and provides a low-speed output that is connected to a lower speed electric motor.
