A convertible ducted fan engine and mounting system. The convertible ducted fan engine has a shroud encircling a mechanical fan. The convertible ducted fan engine includes a fluid-propulsion configuration in which the mechanical fan rotates freely with respect to the shroud to produce thrust through fluid flow, and a drive-wheel configuration in which the shroud rotates about the rotational axis. The mounting system includes at least one gimbal ring and may include a circular track system thereby enabling the convertible engine to be oriented in any direction.

Graphene heat-dissipation layers are coated on outer walls of all of the shell, blades, the rotor, the inner and outer end covers respectively.

A tower fan is provided that includes a fan body having a double cross fan blower centered in the body of the fan with a motor positioned between the fan blowers in the center of the fan body. The tower fan is capable of being oriented in both the horizontal and vertical directions. The fan body may further include first and second ends and at least two supports. At least a first support is coupled to the first end of the fan body and a second support is removably coupled to the least second end of the fan body. The first and second ends of the fan body each have a groove for each receiving at least one of the at least two support members where each groove extends entirely around the fan body. The at least two supports may both be removably coupled to the fan body or one of the at least two supports may be permanently coupled to the first end of the fan body.

Accordingly, the invention is capable of directly and quickly joining the N+1 fans without requiring complicated assembly gestures or other external components.

The fan is supported by at least one vertical strut that is connected to the ceiling at the lower end of the strut and to a housing of the fan at the upper end of the strut. A sound dampener is interposed between the strut and the fan housing and/or the ceiling beam to which the strut is attached.

The plunger assembly is biased toward an at-rest position. The plunger assembly is in physical communication with the fan-side connector when the plunger assembly is in a deformed position. The isolators are mounted on the fan carrier, and dampen vibration energy in the fan carrier and prevent the vibration energy from being transferred to the fan-side connector. The isolators enable the fan-side connector to float within the fan carrier.
