A wind park with wind turbines and airborne wind energy systems where a first zone and a second zone is defined for at least one of the airborne wind energy systems such that the risk of collision between a part of that airborne wind energy systems and a part of one of the wind turbines is higher when the airborne unit of that airborne wind energy system is in the second zone than when it is in the first zone, and different control parameters are applied to the control of at least one of the wind turbine and the airborne wind energy system depending on the position of the airborne unit relative to the defined zones.

Recessed-magnet flywheel construction for vertical axis wind turbines
11092137 · 2021-08-17 · ·

A rotor for a vertical axis wind turbine generator features a flywheel having first and second faces located opposite one another across a thickness of the flywheel, and a circumferential perimeter edge joining the first and second faces together around the central axis at a perimeter of the flywheel. A series of cavities are spaced radially inward from the circumferential perimeter edge and open into the flywheel from the first face on a path disposed circumferentially about the central axis. A series of permanent magnets carried in the cavities have the opposing poles of adjacent magnets facing in the same axial direction. The recessed magnet configuration avoids the separate magnet-retention means required for flush-mount configurations, and increases the performance of the generator.

Circular dam and methods for generating, accumulating, storing, and releasing electrical energy

A circular dam for generating, accumulating, storing, and releasing electrical energy comprises a wall defining a water reservoir built in an abundant body of water such as a sea or an ocean. Water inside the water reservoir is kept at a water level below the water level outside the wall so as to create a water level difference sufficient to operate one or more water turbines positioned across the wall of the water reservoir. Excess electrical energy from other renewable sources of electricity such as wind, solar power, or supplied by a local power grid is used to operate water turbines as water pumps to lower the water level inside the reservoir during times of peak supply of electricity. Water is drained from outside the wall back into the water reservoir to generate electrical energy by flowing over a plurality of water turbines. Generated electricity supplements electrical power for the local power grid during times of high demand.

Cantilevered tension-leg stabilization of buoyant wave energy converter or floating wind turbine base
11131287 · 2021-09-28 · ·

A device to stabilize, reduce, or control the wave or wind-induced heave (vertical), surge (lateral), or pitching (rolling) motion of a floating or semi-submerged buoyant base, raft, barge, buoy or other buoyant body such as the buoyant base of a wave energy converter or a floating wind turbine base. The device concurrently allows the floating base to self-orient or weathervane to substantially maintains its orientation with respect to the direction of oncoming waves, winds, or wind gusts. The device also facilitates maintaining the submerged depth or vertical orientation of the buoyant base relative to the still water line to compensate for tidal depth changes. The device utilizes a second substantially submerged buoyant body having a center of buoyancy and at least one tensioned seabed connection located substantially below and forward or up-sea or up-wind of the center of buoyancy of the buoyant base. A structural member, which can optionally also be buoyant or integral with the base or second submerged body, connects the submerged buoyant body with the floating base.
