System and method for monitoring blade deflection of wind turbines
Described is a system for monitoring deflection of turbine blades of a wind turbine comprising a tower. The system comprises a position detecting apparatus mounted to the wind turbine, the position detection apparatus comprising position detection components each detecting a presence or absence of a corresponding one of the segments of the turbine blades; and a deflection controller configured to receive the presence or absence detection and to use the presence or absence detection to determine a distance of each of the segments of the turbine blades relative to the tower, whereby the distance of each of the segments of the turbine blades relative to the tower is representative of the deflection of the turbine blades.

The present disclosure relates to a method comprises receiving a wind direction signal and one or more signals indicative of an instantaneous wind speed at the wind turbine and determining a rate of change of the wind direction at the wind turbine and an indication of a rate of change of wind speed at the wind turbine. The method further comprises determining a control signal for a pitch system of the wind turbine at least partially based on the determined rate of change of the wind direction and the determined indication of the rate of change of wind speed. The present disclosure further relates to control systems for wind turbines which are configured to implement such methods. The present disclosure further relates to methods of operating wind turbines.
WIND POWER GENERATION APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR STOPPING THE SAME
Even when a low stiffness blade is adopted, collision between the blade and a tower is avoided when a wind power generation apparatus is to be stopped, while an increase in the time required for the stop is suppressed. A rotor including a blade, a nacelle that supports the rotor, a tower that supports the nacelle, a pitch angle control mechanism that controls a pitch angle of the blade, and a controller that outputs a target value of the pitch angle to the pitch angle control mechanism are included. When the wind power generation apparatus is to be stopped, the controller determines the target value of the pitch angle in a feather operation of the blade such that the blade does not greatly bend toward the tower in an azimuth angle range in which the blade passes through the tower.

Structures and methods of manufacturing structures using biological based materials
A structure for a turbine, the structure comprising a body having a multi-layer construction including an interior layer with substantially uniform concentrations throughout of facultative anaerobic organisms (FAO) that have gene sets capable of producing the enzyme urease and/or the proteins purloin, lustre A and perlustrin, along with glucose, and non-uniform concentrations throughout of a structural composition, the structural composition including a chitin-based component with silk fibronectin and water; an exterior layer of urea, water, calcium ions and facultative anaerobic organisms (FAOs) including urease, aragonite; and a binding layer of conchiolin protein intermediate the interior layer and the exterior layer. The facultative anaeorobic organisms (FAOs) are organisms classified in one of the Saccharomyces, Escherichia and Bacillus genuses.
PITCH CONTROL OF A WIND TURBINE BASED POSITION DATA FROM POSITION LOCALIZATION SENSORS
A method for controlling pitching of at least one rotor blade of a wind turbine includes receiving, via one or more position localization sensors, position data relating to the at least one rotor blade of the wind turbine. Further, the method includes determining, via a controller, a blade deflection signal of the at least one rotor blade based on the position data. Moreover, the method includes determining, via a computer-implemented model stored in the controller, a pitch command for the at least one rotor blade as a function of the blade deflection signal and an azimuth angle of the at least one rotor blade.
Method for determining the deflection of a wind turbine blade using the wind turbine blade's known modal profile
A method for the determination of the deflection of a wind turbine blade is provided. A distance between at least one root location towards a root end of the wind turbine blade and at least one tip location towards a tip end of the wind turbine blade is measured. A blade deflection profile is then calculated based on the measured distance between the root and tip locations and a known modal profile of the wind turbine blade.
