Airfoil having a spline fillet
An airfoil for a gas turbine engine, which has an airfoil body extending in a spanwise direction and in a chordwise direction, a platform located at an inner end and/or an outer end of the airfoil body, and a fillet at a junction between the airfoil body and the platform. The fillet has a radius distribution at a given chordwise location, the radius distribution varying from the platform to the airfoil body in the spanwise direction. The radius distribution defines a local minimum, the radius of the fillet at the given chordwise location increasing from the local minimum along the spanwise direction toward both of the airfoil and the platform. A local maximum of the radius distribution is offset from the local minimum along the spanwise direction, the radius decreasing from the local maximum along the spanwise direction toward both of the airfoil and the platform.
Geared turbofan with integral front support and carrier
A gas turbine engine includes a nacelle, and a bypass flow path in a bypass duct within the nacelle of the turbofan engine. A fan section includes a fan with fan blades. The fan section drives air along the bypass flow path. A fan shaft drives a fan that has fan blades and the fan rotates about a central longitudinal axis of the turbofan engine. A speed reduction device includes an epicyclic gear system. A turbine section is connected to the fan section through the speed reduction device and the turbine section rotates about the central longitudinal axis. A first fan bearing for supporting rotation of the fan hub is located axially forward of the speed reduction device. A second fan bearing for supporting rotation of the fan hub is located axially aft of the speed reduction device. A first outer race of the first fan bearing is fixed relative to the fan hub.
Efficiency-based machine control
A system can include a gas turbine and a processing system. The gas turbine can include a compressor coupled to a turbine through a shaft. The processing system can be configured to: automatically transition an operating condition of the system through a plurality of operating states; determine an efficiency of the system at each of a plurality of the operating states; for each of the plurality of operating states: select a future operating state of the system based on the determined efficiency of the current operating state.
System and methods for selective cleaning of turbine engine components
System for selectively contacting a cleaning composition with a surface of a turbine engine component is presented. The system includes a cleaning apparatus and a manifold assembly. The cleaning apparatus includes an upper portion and a lower portion defining a cleaning chamber configured to allow selective contact between the cleaning composition and a surface of the first portion of the turbine engine component. The upper portion includes a plurality of fill holes in fluid communication with the cleaning chamber, and the lower portion includes a plurality of drain holes in fluid communication with the cleaning chamber. The manifold assembly is configured to selectively circulate the cleaning composition from a reservoir to the cleaning chamber via the plurality of fill holes, and recirculate the cleaning composition from the cleaning chamber to the reservoir via the plurality of drain holes. Methods for selectively cleaning a turbine engine component is also presented.
EXIT SEAL AND GAS TURBINE EQUIPPED WITH SAME
This exit seal is for connecting an exit flange of a combustor and a shroud in a stator blade of a turbine. The exit seal is equipped with: a seal body that extends in a circumferential direction; and a lid member disposed at a circumferential end of the seal body. The seal body comprises one or more recessed sections that are recessed in a radial direction or in an axial direction and extend in the circumferential direction. At a position of the circumferential end of at least one recessed section among the one or more recessed sections, the lid member is disposed so as to overlap, in the axial direction and the radial direction, with a recessed space formed by the one recessed section.
HYBRID SUPPLY CONFIGURATION FOR AXIALLY FLOWING HIGH INTERNAL MACH NUMBER BAFFLES
A hollow airfoil body includes a baffle that is arranged in the airfoil body that extends in a radial direction and provides a fluid flow direction. The baffle has multiple holes that include first and second holes that are configured to conduct the cooling airflow in a chordwise direction toward the trailing edge of the airfoil body. The airfoil has a first standoff that extends from the airfoil body to support the baffle. The first axial standoff has a first length that defines an axial passage including the multiple holes. The airfoil includes a second standoff that has a second length less than the first length. The second standoff is arranged radially between the first and second holes. The first hole is smaller than the second hole. The second hole is downstream from the first hole relative to the fluid flow direction.
GAS TURBINE ENGINE HAVING A HEAT EXCHANGER LOCATED IN AN ANNULAR DUCT
A gas turbine engine is provided including a turbomachine having a compressor section, a combustion section, and a turbine section arranged in serial flow order; a rotor assembly driven by the turbomachine, the rotor assembly, the turbomachine, or both comprising a substantially annular duct relative to the centerline of the gas turbine engine, the annular duct defining a flowpath; a heat exchanger positioned within the annular duct and extending substantially continuously along the circumferential direction, the heat exchanger comprising a first material defining a heat exchange surface exposed to the flowpath, wherein the first material defines a heat exchange coefficient and wherein the heat exchange surface defines a surface area (A), and wherein the heat exchanger has an effective transmission loss (ETL) of between 5 decibels and 1 decibel for an operating condition.

A coating system for a turbine engine component is disclosed. The coating system includes a substrate, an optional bond coat, a synthetic oxide layer and a top coat. The synthetic oxide layer is formed by atomic layer deposition and includes two or more oxides.
Technique for cooling squealer tip of a gas turbine blade
The present technique presents a blade 1 for a gas turbine 10. The blade 1 includes an airfoil 100 having an airfoil tip part 100a and a pressure side 102 and a suction side 104 meeting at a leading edge 106 and a trailing edge 108 and defining an internal space 100s of the airfoil 100. A squealer tip 80, 90 is arranged at the airfoil tip part 100a. The squealer tip 80, 90 comprises a suction side rail 90. The suction side rail 90 comprises a chamfer part 90x and at least one squealer tip cooling hole 99. The chamfer part 90x comprises a chamfer surface 9. An outlet 99a of the at least one squealer tip cooling hole 99 is disposed at the chamfer surface 9.
Fuel injectors with torch ignitors
A fuel injector includes a fuel nozzle configured to issue a spray of fuel from a fuel outlet in a downstream direction along an injection axis. The fuel nozzle defines a main flow passage therethrough. An injection fuel line is in fluid communication with the fuel nozzle to supply fuel to the fuel nozzle. A torch ignitor has a flame outlet opening into the main flow passage of the fuel nozzle for issuing flame into the main flow passage.
