CERAMIC COMPONENT HAVING SILICON LAYER AND BARRIER LAYER
A seal system includes a ceramic component that has a non-core-gaspath surface region that defines a first surface roughness and a core gaspath surface region. A metallic component is situated adjacent the non-core-gaspath surface region. A coating system is disposed on the ceramic component. The coating system includes a silicon-containing layer on the non-core-gaspath surface region and a barrier layer that has a first section on the silicon-containing layer and a second section on the core-gaspath region and that is connected to the first section. The surface of the barrier layer has a second surface roughness that is less than the first surface roughness. The first section is in contact with the metallic component and the second section serves as an environmental barrier on the core-gaspath region.
CONNECTING FUEL INJECTORS AND NOZZLES TO MANIFOLDS
A method includes joining a fuel plurality of injection components to a fuel manifold, wherein for each fuel injection component in the plurality of fuel injection components, a metallic joint is formed joining and sealing the fuel injection component to the manifold. A system includes a fuel manifold. A plurality of fuel injection components are connected in fluid communication with the fuel manifold with metallic joints sealing between each of the plurality of fuel injection components and the fuel manifold to prevent leakage from between the manifold and the plurality of fuel injection components.
UNIT CELL RESONATOR NETWORKS FOR ACOUSTIC AND VIBRATION DAMPING
A noise and vibration attenuation panel for a structure within a propulsion system includes a first plurality of unit cells and a first plurality of mass elements disposed within the first plurality of unit cells. The first plurality of unit cells include a first periodic structure having a first unit cell, a second unit cell, a third unit cell, and a fourth unit cell, each of the first unit cell, the second unit cell, the third unit cell and the fourth unit cell including a central body interconnected via a plurality of lateral tubes extending from the central body, the first periodic structure forming a first lateral layer of unit cells. The noise attenuation panel can simultaneously control acoustic waves or energy (i.e., via noise attenuation flow paths) and vibration (i.e., via the mass elements).
TANGENTIALLY BOWED AIRFOIL
A gas turbine engine includes a turbine section that has a plurality of turbine vanes. Each of the turbine vanes includes inner and outer platforms and an airfoil section that extends there between. The airfoil section is hollow and rib-less and has a first end at the outer platform and a second end at the inner platform. The airfoil section is tangentially bowed from the first end to the second end with a radius of curvature that is from 17 centimeters to 130 centimeters.
CONNECTING STRUCTURE FOR LOAD TRANSFER
A connecting structure (10) for load transfer, in particular in a gas turbine (1), including a strut (20) and at least one wall element (30) is provided. The strut (20) at one end is integrally joined to the wall element (30), and the strut (20) and the wall element (30) are enclosed by a fillet (40), at least in areas, and integrally joined to same. An elastic deformation of the involved elements of the structure during the load transfer and/or load absorption is improved in that a root section (50) that is formed by a ridge (56) and that extends from the strut (20) to the wall element (30) is situated on the fillet (40).
Laser powder deposition weld rework for gas turbine engine non-fusion weldable nickel castings
A method of reworking an aerospace component includes removing a casting defect from a component manufactured of a non-fusion weldable base alloy to form a cavity. The cavity is then at least partially filled with a multiple of layers of discrete laser powder deposition spots of a filler alloy. A cast component for a gas turbine engine includes a cast component non-fusion weldable base alloy with a cavity filled with a multiple of layers of laser powder deposition spots of a filler alloy. The filler alloy may be different than the non-fusion weldable base alloy. A layer of non-fusion weldable base alloy is at least partially within the cavity and over the filler alloy.
Calcium-magnesium-alumino-silicate resistant thermal barrier coatings
A method for forming a coating system on a component includes depositing a reactive layer with predetermined CMAS reaction kinetics on at least a portion of a thermal barrier coating. The method also includes activating the reactive layer with a scanning laser. A component, such as a gas turbine engine component, includes a substrate, a thermal barrier coating and a reactive layer. The thermal barrier coating is deposited on at least a portion of the substrate. The reactive layer is deposited on at least a portion of the thermal barrier coating. The reactive layer has predetermined CMAS reaction kinetics activated by laser scanning.
