Ram air turbine blade platform cooling
A turbine rotor blade includes an airfoil, root, and platform that is between the root and a proximate end portion of the airfoil. The blade defines a passage having a first leg, second leg, and arcuate portion. The arcuate portion is at least partially within the platform and connects the first and second legs. The first leg extends between a distal end portion of the airfoil and an inlet of the arcuate portion. The second leg extends from an outlet of the arcuate portion to the distal end portion of the airfoil. The platform includes a first feed passage and branch passages. The first feed passage is open through an extrados of the arcuate portion and is in fluid communication with the branch passages. The inlet of each branch passage is connected with the first feed passage while the outlet is open to an exterior of the platform.
LOCKING AND UNLOCKING MECHANISM
A locking mechanism for releasably locking a lock bolt against axial movement, the mechanism comprising an axially moveable member, arranged to move axially with the lock bolt biasing means, arranged to bias the piston towards the lock bolt; rotation means in threaded engagement with the piston such that rotation of the rotation means causes axial movement of the piston, and a solenoid assembly arranged to prevent rotation of said rotation means in a locked state, the solenoid assembly comprising: a solenoid plunger having a solenoid tip and a solenoid arranged to cause movement of the solenoid plunger relative to the rotation means, the solenoid assembly arranged such that in a locked state the solenoid causes the solenoid tip to engage with the rotation means such as to prevent rotation thereof, thus preventing axial movement of the piston.
Method and apparatus for an engine inlet for a ram-air system with an icing bypass
An aircraft includes a fuselage and an engine housed in the fuselage. A ram-air engine inlet is formed on an exterior of the fuselage. The ram-air engine inlet is defined, at least in part, by a cowling door. The cowling door is moveable between a closed position and an open position. An intake duct fluidly couples the ram-air engine inlet to the engine. A filter is disposed across the intake duct. A bypass duct is formed in the ram-air engine inlet aft of the intake duct. The bypass duct is operable to be selectively opened and closed.
Ram air turbine overspeed protection
A power generation system includes a ram air turbine that is connected to a generator. The power generation system may be located in a pod, for example a pod for mounting on an aircraft. The ram air turbine receives air that passes through an air path through the pod, going in through an air inlet, through the turbine to turn the turbine, and out through an air outlet. The system includes a deployable flow obstruction, such as one or more airbags, that are deployable to suddenly obstruct the flow through the air path. The obstruction may be used to cut off flow (or greatly reduce flow), when overspeed of the ram air turbine is detected. The obstruction deploys (for example, airbags deploy in an air inlet of the system) to prevent continuation of the overspeed operation of the turbine, which may damage parts of the system.
Ram air turbine pump leakage control
An exemplary method of controlling fluid flow in a ram air turbine assembly, includes redirecting flow moving in an axial direction against the surface of a drive shaft to flow moving in a radial direction away from the drive shaft to limit flow of the fluid from a hydraulic pump to a generator.
RAM AIR TURBINE ACTUATOR SYSTEM
A ram air turbine control valve includes a sleeve, a spool, and a return housing. The sleeve defines a first exit port disposed proximate a first end of the sleeve and defines a second exit port disposed between the first exit port and the first end. The spool is radially contained within the sleeve and is movable between a first position and a second position. The return housing is coupled to the first end of the sleeve and defines a cavity that receives a biasing member that engages the spool.
CROSS ROD FOR TOGGLE MECHANISM OF RAM AIR TURBINE ACTUATOR
A cross rod for use in a toggle mechanism including a first section, a second section and a midsection between the first section and the second section. The midsection includes a flange having a through hole. The first section has a first diameter, the second section has a second diameter, and the midsection has a third diameter. The third diameter being larger than at least one of the first diameter and the second diameter.
CLEVIS LINK FOR TOGGLE MECHANISM OF RAM AIR TURBINE ACTUATOR
A clevis for use in a toggle mechanism of a ram air turbine actuator is provided comprising a first side; a second side parallel to the first side; a first set of parallel pivot holes; second set of parallel pivot holes; a set of parallel through holes; and a helicoil blind hole. The second side rigidly connected to the first side via at least one brace perpendicular to the first side and the second side. The helicoil blind hole being located in the first side and extending into the at least one brace. The first side having a first hole of the first set of parallel pivot holes, a first hole of the second set of parallel pivot holes, and a first hole of the set of parallel through holes. The second side having the hole pattern reflective of the first side, composed of second holes.
In Flight Restart System and Method for Free Turbine Engine
There is described a method and system for in-flight start of an engine. The method comprises rotating a propeller; generating electrical power at an electric generator embedded inside a propeller hub from rotation of the propeller; transmitting the electrical power from the electric generator to an engine starter mounted on a core of the engine via an electric power link; and driving the engine with the engine starter to a sufficient speed while providing fuel to a combustor to light the engine to achieve self-sustaining operation of the engine.
