Method and apparatus for optimisation of the supports for the additive manufacturing of a component with a recess
A method for obtaining, by additive manufacture, a component including at least one recess, this method including: a step of forming, by additive manufacture, a one-piece blank component, in which the at least one recess contains a support including a core in the form of a block of material and cellular elements that connect the core to the recess; and a step of detaching the support from the rest of the blank component in order to expose the recess.
Heat exchanger assembly with a manifold additively manufactured onto a core and method of forming
An apparatus and method of forming a hybrid heat exchanger including a first manifold defining a first fluid inlet and a second manifold defining a second fluid inlet. A monolithic core body includes a first set of flow passages in fluid communication with the first manifold and a second set of flow passages is in communication with the second manifold. At least a portion of the first manifold or the second manifold has a tunable coefficient of thermal expansion that is less than a coefficient of thermal expansion of the structurally rigid monolithic core.
Valve assembly for an active clearance control system
A valve assembly for an active clearance control (ACC) system in a gas turbine engine. The assembly comprises a first valve disc positioned within a first outlet duct, a second valve disc positioned within the second outlet duct, and a shaft coupled to the first and second valve discs such that rotation of the shaft rotates both the first and second valve discs within the first and second outlet ducts, respectively. A flow control member in the second outlet duct surrounds the second valve disc, and is configured to restrict fluid flow passing through the second outlet duct to a greater extent than the fluid flow passing through the first outlet duct for a given degree of rotation of the first and second valve discs. A corresponding ACC system, gas turbine and method is also provided.
Process and material configuration for making hot corrosion resistant HPC abrasive blade tips
An abrasive coating system for a substrate of an airfoil in a turbine engine high pressure compressor, comprising a plurality of grit particles adapted to be placed on a top surface of the substrate; a matrix material bonded to the top surface; the matrix material partially surrounds the grit particles, the matrix material consisting of unalloyed chromium and unalloyed aluminum distributed throughout the matrix material, wherein the grit particles extend above the matrix material relative to the top surface; and a film of oxidant resistant coating applied over the plurality of grit particles and the matrix material.
PART HAVING IMPROVED ABRASION RESISTANCE
An assembly includes a first part and a second part separate from the first part, the first and second parts being intended to be in frictional contact, the first part being made of an organic matrix composite material that has, on its surface, an abrasion-resistant area including a resin that contains polytetrafluoroethylene particles, the polytetrafluoroethylene particles being only present at the surface of the first part, and the second part being made of an organic matrix composite material and being in contact with the abrasion-resistant area of the first part.
TURBOMACHINE MANUFACTURE AND REPAIR METHOD USING ADDITIVE MANUFACTURED BRAZE PREFORMS
Additive manufacturing techniques are used to achieve customized preforms for repair or manufacture of turbomachinery. A method of modifying a section of a product includes forming, a preform set to fit the section. A base material is selected with properties desired for the modification of the section. A binder is selected that vaporizes at a temperature below a melting point of the base material. The preform set is built by the selective application of the binder to the base material to achieve design dimensions of the section when the preform is joined to the section. The section is prepared for effecting the extent of modification and the preform is positioned on the section. The section and the preform are heated to substantially eliminate the binder from the preform and then thermally processed to harden the preform and to bond the preform to the section.
Rotatable forged disc for a bladed rotor wheel and a method for manufacturing thereof
The present invention provides a bladed rotor wheel for a gas turbine engine comprising at least a rotatable forged disc, the rotatable forged disc comprising a front surface and a back surface, at least one rim surface, and a plurality of projections located on at least a portion of at least one of the front or back surface and/or on the rim surface; wherein the projections are 3D printed features protruding outwards from the front, back and/or rim surface; the projections are arranged forming a pattern so that a heat transfer capability is created at the front, back and/or rim surface; and the ratio of the distance between projections to the forged disc external radius is lower than 0.15. Furthermore, the present invention also provides a method for manufacturing a rotatable forged disc for a bladed rotor wheel.
Propulsion system for field configurable vehicle
A field configurable autonomous vehicle includes modular elements and attachable components. The vehicle can be assembled from these modular elements and components to meet desired mission and performance characteristics without the need to purchase specially designed vehicles for each mission. The vehicle can include a modular propulsion system with magnetic drive.
