INTEGRAL CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITE FASTENER WITH NON-POLYMER RIGIDIZATION
A method of forming an integral fastener for a ceramic matrix composite component comprises the steps of forming a fiber preform with an opening, forming a fiber fastener, inserting the fiber fastener into the opening, and infiltrating a matrix material into the fiber preform and fiber fastener to form a ceramic matrix composite component with an integral fastener. A gas turbine engine is also disclosed.
Method and system for utilizing jet engines to clear drones from airspace
A system and method that uses one or more jet engines to remove unmanned aircraft from restricted airspace. Generally, the force created by a jet engine can be used to remove drones or other unwanted objects from the restricted airspace. Once the system determines the presence of an unauthorized aircraft or object within the restricted airspace, the jet engine(s) can be activated and used to pull the drone or flying object towards the jet engine though the force created by the intake of the jet engine(s), or to expel the drone or object from the restricted area through the force created by the exhaust of the jet engine(s).
Multi-point mounting system for rotating machinery
A mounting system for supporting rotating machinery is described. The system comprises a base frame having an upper side for mounting the rotating machinery, and a lower side. A set of main supporting members are arranged according to a triangular arrangement and forming a three-point mounting arrangement defining a mounting plane. Moreover, a set of auxiliary supporting members, having a variable stiffness in at least one direction, are provided and are configured and arranged such as to increase the stiffness thereof when the base frame is subject to an overload, thus reducing load on the main supporting members.
Aircraft engine repair tool and method for removal and installation of a rotor in an aircraft engine
Methods and tools for facilitating the installation and/or removal of a rotor on a shaft of a gas turbine engine are provided. The tool includes a stabilizer attachable to the shaft and including a first guide counterpart. The tool also includes a holder attachable to the rotor and including a second guide counterpart for engagement with the first guide counterpart of the stabilizer. Engagement of the first and second guide counterparts guides movement of the holder relative to the stabilizer along a guide axis and prevents movement of the holder relative to the stabilizer transverse to the guide axis.
ENGINE CONTROLLER FOR A GAS TURBINE ENGINE
A gas turbine engine is provided having: a turbomachine; a fan section having a fan rotatable by the turbomachine; a nacelle enclosing the fan; and an engine controller positioned within the nacelle. The nacelle defines an inner surface radius (r) along the radial direction inward of the engine controller, wherein the engine controller defines a radial height (Δr) along the radial direction, a total volume (V), and a normalized radius (r′). The normalized radius (r′) is a ratio of the inner surface radius (r) to the total volume (V) to cube root, and wherein these parameters are related by the following equation:
wherein the normalized radius (r′) is between 1.25 and 8 and K is equal to 40%, or the normalized radius (r′) is between 2.75 and 4.5 and K is equal to 65%.

INTEGRAL CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITE FASTENER WITH POLYMER RIGIDIZATION
A gas turbine engine component includes a gas turbine engine component body formed of a ceramic matrix composite material having at least one fastener integrally formed with the gas turbine engine component body as a single-piece structure. The gas turbine engine component body initially comprises a rigidized preform structure formed from a polymer based material. The at least one fastener connects the gas turbine engine component body to an engine support structure.
Exhaust manifold having turbine connector with turbine foot
A turbine connector in an engine exhaust manifold includes a turbine foot attached to incoming exhaust conduits. The turbine foot has an outer perimetric edge defining a trapezoidal shape, and inner perimetric edges forming exhaust outlets from the incoming exhaust conduits. The inner perimetric edges have varied perimetric curvatures largest in finite curvature size upon a web extending between the exhaust outlets, and together forming an hourglass web profile in a turbine-mounting plane defined by the turbine foot.
Borescope plug
Borescope plugs are described. The borescope plugs include a borescope plug base having a first side configured to support a shank and a second side having a centroid defined as the center of the borescope plug base, a first mounting aperture formed in the second side, and a second mounting aperture formed in the second side. The first and second mounting apertures are configured to each receive a fastener to mount the borescope plug base to a case, and an offset line drawn through the center of the first mounting aperture and through the center of the second mounting aperture does not pass through the centroid or does not include a point defined by the centroid.
