Persistent vortex generating high regression rate solid fuel grain for a hybrid rocket engine
A cylindrically-shaped hybrid rocket engine solid fuel grain defines an axial combustion port. A fuel grain material comprises a compounded blend of thermoplastic fuel and aluminum. The fuel grain comprises fused stack layers, each layer comprising a plurality of fused abutting concentric beaded structures arrayed to define the combustion port; the port exhibits a rifling pattern or rifling inducing geometry along the port wall. When an oxidizer is introduced into the combustion port combustion occurs along the exposed port wall. Each beaded structure defines a geometry that increases the combustion surface area while inducing a vortex flow of oxidizer and fuel gas. As each layer ablates, an abutting layer exhibiting a similar geometry, is revealed, undergoes a gas phase change, and ablates. This process repeats and persists until oxidizer flow is terminated or the fuel grain material is exhausted. The fuel grain may be manufactured by an additive manufacturing process.
CONTAINMENT CASING AND GAS TURBINE ENGINE
It is described a containment casing, in particular a containment casing of a gas turbine engine of an aircraft engine, which at least regionally has a structure selected from at least one of the structure types beam structure, cylinder structure, strips cage structure, foam structure, honeycomb structure, corrugated structure or net structure, each of which is formed from SMA. Furthermore, a gas turbine engine including an impactor containment casing is proposed.
SEALING ARRANGEMENT BETWEEN TURBINE SHROUD SEGMENTS
A shroud assembly for a turbine engine includes a seal for sealing a gap between a first mate face of a first shroud segment and a second mate face of a circumferentially adjacent second shroud segment. The seal is received in first and second slots formed respectively on the first and second mate faces. The first and second slots extend axially between a leading edge and a trailing edge of the respective shroud segment. The first slot is open at the leading and the trailing edges while the second slot is open at the leading edge and closed at the trailing edge. The seal has axially extending first and second sides which are receivable respectively within the first and second slots. The seal has an axial length substantially equal to tan axial length of the shroud segments and has a cutout on the second side at a trailing edge end of the seal.
TURBINE ENGINE WITH A FLOW SPLITTER HAVING A PROFILE WITH INCLINED SERRATIONS
An airflow profile structure having a leading and/or trailing edge profiled with a serrated profile. The serrated profile has a succession of teeth and depressions, characterized in that, along the leading and/or trailing edge, from a first location to a second location, the teeth of the serrated profile are individually inclined towards the second location.
Vortex generating device
A vortex generating device is provided as a generally airfoil-shaped lobed body. The flow deflection varies along a spanwise extent, such that the body exhibits a corrugated geometry in a trailing edge region, and the trailing edge exhibits an undulating shape. The undulating shape includes at least one corner. The trailing edge may include or may consist of straight trailing edge sections. The trailing edge may exhibit a polygonial waveform shape, in particular a trapezoidal or rectangular waveform shape. The vortex generating device may be provided as a fuel discharge device which is suited to discharge a fuel into a vortex flow generated by the vortex generating device. To this extent, a fuel supply plenum may be provided inside the body and at least one fuel discharge opening which is in fluid communication with the fuel supply plenum may be provided on the trailing edge.
Acoustic structure with floating interior skin
A structure is provided that includes a perforated first skin, a second skin and a core. The core includes a first sidewall, a second sidewall, a first baffle and a second baffle. The core forms a plurality of cavities vertically between the perforated first skin and the second skin. The first baffle is connected to the perforated first skin at a first baffle first end. The first baffle is connected to the second skin at a first baffle second end by a first moveable joint. The second baffle is connected to the perforated first skin at a second baffle first end. The second baffle is connected to the second skin at a second baffle second end. A first of the cavities extends laterally between the first sidewall and the second sidewall. The first cavity extends longitudinally between the first baffle and the second baffle.
Turbine component assembly
A turbine component assembly is disclosed, including a first component, a second component, and a circumferentially oriented flat spring. The first component is arranged to be disposed adjacent to a hot gas path, and includes a ceramic matrix composite composition. The second component is adjacent to the first component and arranged to be disposed distal from the hot gas path across the first component. The circumferentially oriented flat spring is disposed on and directly contacting the second component and directly contacting and supporting the first component as a compliant contact interface between the first component and the second component. The circumferentially oriented flat spring provides a radial spring compliance between the first component and the second component.
TURBINE EXHAUST CASE MIXER
A turbine exhaust case (TEC) mixer for an aircraft engine is disclosed. The aircraft engine has an inner shroud, a nacelle, a fan assembly, a compressor assembly and a turbine assembly. The TEC mixer includes struts extending from the mixer and is adapted to connect to the inner shroud at a shroud-strut interface. A plurality of the struts are narrower in a middle portion thereof than at the shroud-strut interface.
