Dual walled seal assembly

A seal assembly that may be for turbine engine includes a first wall defining in-part a first flowpath and a second wall defining in-part a second flowpath having a pressure that is greater than the first flowpath. The second wall has a plurality of metering apertures in fluid communication between the second flowpath and a cavity defined by and between the first and second walls. The walls may be convoluted and generally, resiliently compressed between two substantially opposing surfaces for providing a seal between the two flowpaths.

Circumferential seal assembly with multi-axis stepped grooves
11686346 · 2023-06-27 · ·

A circumferential seal assembly suitable for forming a thin film between a rotatable runner and a sealing ring is presented. The assembly includes an annular seal housing, a rotatable runner, an annular seal ring, and a plurality of groove structures. Each groove structure includes a groove and an optional feed groove. The groove includes at least two adjoining steps defined by base walls arranged to decrease depthwise. Two adjoining base walls are disposed about a base shoulder. Each base shoulder locally redirects a longitudinal flow to form an outward radial flow in the direction of the annular seal ring. The base walls are bounded by and intersect a pair of side walls. A side wall includes side shoulders which narrows the groove widthwise and locally redirects the longitudinal flow to form a lateral flow in the direction of the other side wall. Outward and lateral flows separately or in combination enhance stiffness of a thin-film layer between the annular seal ring and the rotatable runner.

H-frame connection between fan case and core housing in a gas turbine engine

A gas turbine engine includes a fan rotor driven by a fan drive turbine about an axis through a gear reduction to reduce a speed of the fan rotor relative to a speed of the fan drive turbine. A fan case surrounds the fan rotor, and a core engine with a compressor section, including a low pressure compressor. The fan rotor delivers air into a bypass duct defined between the fan case and the core engine. A rigid connection between the fan case and the core engine includes a plurality of H-frame connecting members rigidly connected to the fan case, and to the core engine. The H-frame connecting members each are defined by two rigid legs which extend between the fan case and to the core engine, along directions which are generally parallel to each other. A plurality of non-structural fan exit guide vanes and the non-structural fan exit guide vanes are provided with an acoustic feature to reduce noise. The non-structural fan exit guide vanes are rigidly mounted to at least one of the fan case and the core engine.

Flow directing cover for engine component

An assembly for a gas turbine engine according to an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, among other things, an airfoil including a radial end, a first passageway having an outlet at the radial end, and a second passageway having an inlet at the radial end. The assembly further includes a cover having at least one turning cavity configured to direct fluid expelled from the outlet of the first passageway into the inlet of the second passageway.

A method and apparatus for generating a wave in a body of water may include altering a flow of water as it is urged through an inlet, contoured passage, and outlet. For example, a primary flow of water may be altered so that one or more secondary flows are created at angles to the direction of primary flow.

TURBINE FOR A TURBINE ENGINE

A turbine for a turbine engine extending along an axis includes an annular casing and at least one turbine stage having a nozzle and a rotor impeller wheel surrounded by a sealing ring with an abradable element. The impeller wheel and the sealing ring are located downstream of the nozzle, and the sealing ring has an upstream end held on the casing by locking means. The turbine includes elastic sealing means in contact with the locking means as well as with the nozzle or the casing so as to press the locking means against the sealing ring. The locking means includes a radially outer portion with a C-shaped cross-section and a radial portion extending radially inwards from the outer portion. The sealing means include two elastic seals bearing on the radial portion, respectively on either side of the radial portion.
