A dual-wall airfoil configured for coolant transfer includes a spar having a pressure side wall and a suction side wall each including raised features on an outer surface thereof. An interior of the spar includes coolant cavities. An inner surface of a pressure side coversheet is in contact with the raised features on the outer surface of the pressure side wall so as to define pressure side flow pathways between the pressure side wall and the pressure side coversheet, and an inner surface of a suction side coversheet is in contact with the raised features on the outer surface of the suction side wall so as to define suction side flow pathways between the suction side wall and the suction side coversheet. The pressure side flow pathways and/or the suction side flow pathways include cooling circuit(s) configured to transfer coolant between the coolant cavities.

The platform includes a pressure side, a suction side, a leading-edge side and a trailing-edge side, disposed towards the pressure surface, the suction surface, the leading edge and the trailing edge of the airfoil, respectively. The suction side of the platform includes a part of the upper surface and a suction-side lateral surface of the platform. At least a part of an edge between the suction-side lateral surface and the upper surface of the platform comprises a chamfer part.

An airfoil, such as a vane or a blade for a gas turbine engine, may be provided, where the airfoil comprises: a platform; a spar; a fillet; and a coversheet. The spar may include a passageway inside of the spar for a cooling fluid, a pedestal on an outer surface of the spar, and a spar hole configured to direct the cooling fluid from the passageway to the outer surface of the spar. The spar may be coupled or integral to the platform by the fillet located at the intersection of the platform and the spar. An inner surface of the coversheet may be positioned on the pedestal of the spar. The fillet and/or the coversheet includes a protrusion extending along the edge of the coversheet. The protrusion, along with the pedestal and the outer surface of the spar, define a purge groove. The purge groove includes a purge groove outlet and the purge groove and the purge groove outlet together form a cooling path for cooling fluid to flow onto the platform.

A turbine apparatus is disclosed including a first article and a second article disposed between the first article and a hot gas path of a turbine. The first article includes at least one first article cooling channel in fluid communication with and downstream from a cooling fluid source, and the second article includes at least one second article cooling channel in fluid communication with and downstream from the at least one first article cooling channel. A method for redundant cooling of the turbine apparatus is disclosed including flowing a cooling fluid from the cooling fluid source through at least one first article cooling channel, exhausting the cooling fluid from the at least one first article cooling channel into at least one second article cooling channel, and flowing the cooling fluid through the at least one second article cooling channel.

A gas turbine having a combustion chamber with exhaust section through which combustion gas is exhaustable, plenum chamber and compressor are provided. The plenum chamber is coupled to the compressor wherein a first quantity of compressed fluid is injectable therein at a radially inner wall of the plenum chamber. A guide vane section with at least one airfoil is coupled to the exhaust section so combustion gas is flowable against the airfoil. The exhaust section and guide vane section are housed inside the plenum chamber. The airfoil has a first flow chamber where a second quantity of compressed fluid is flowable through the guide vane section from the compressor in the direction from the inner wall to a outer wall of the plenum chamber before being discharged. The second quantity of compressed fluid streamable through the guide vane section is larger than the first quantity of the compressed fluid.
