HEAT EXCHANGER ARRAY
A heat exchanger array includes a first row of heat exchangers, a second row of heat exchangers, and side curtains. The first row heat exchangers are spaced apart to define first gaps. The second row heat exchangers are spaced apart to define second gaps and are positioned downstream of and staggered from the first row heat exchangers such that the second row heat exchangers are aligned with the first gaps and the first row heat exchangers are aligned with the second gaps. Each side curtain is in close proximity to a first row heat exchanger and a second row heat exchanger. The side curtains define a neck region upstream of and aligned with each first row heat exchanger and each second row heat exchanger. Each neck region has a neck area that is less than a frontal area of the heat exchanger with which it is aligned.
Intercooled cooling air
A gas turbine engine includes a plurality of rotating components housed within a compressor section and a turbine section. A first tap is connected to the compressor section and configured to deliver air at a first pressure. A heat exchanger is connected downstream of the first tap and configured to deliver air to an aircraft fuselage. A cooling compressor is connected downstream of the heat exchanger. A high pressure feed is configured to deliver air at a second pressure which is higher than the first pressure. The cooling compressor is configured to deliver air to at least one of the plurality of rotating components. A valve assembly that can select whether air from the first tap or air from the high pressure feed is delivered to the aircraft pneumatic system.
Charge gas compression train for ethylene
A charge gas compression train for ethylene including a first compressor including a first group of compression stages, a second group of compression stages, and a third group of compression stages. The first group of compression stages includes an outlet configured to be connected to a first intercooler inlet. The second group of compression stages includes a second compressor inlet configured to be connected to a first intercooler outlet, and a second compressor outlet configured to be connected to a second intercooler inlet. The third group of compression stages includes a third compressor inlet configured to be connected to a second intercooler outlet. The first, the second, and the third group of compression stages are integrated in a first common casing and operate at the same rotation speed. The first compressor includes a plurality of unshrouded and shrouded impellers, where an unshrouded impeller is positioned upstream to a shrouded impeller.
Intercooled cooling air with dual pass heat exchanger
A gas turbine engine comprises a main compressor section having a downstream most end, and more upstream locations. A turbine section has a high pressure turbine. A tap taps air from at least one of the more upstream locations in the compressor section, passes the tapped air through a heat exchanger and then to a cooling compressor. The cooling compressor compresses cooling air downstream of the heat exchanger, and delivers air into the high pressure turbine. The heat exchanger has at least two passes, with one of the passes passing air radially outwardly, and a second of the passes returning the air radially inwardly to the compressor. An intercooling system for a gas turbine engine is also disclosed.
Intercooled cooling air with low temperature bearing compartment air
A gas turbine engine includes a plurality of rotatable components housed within a main compressor section and a turbine section. A cooling system is connected to tap air from said main compressor section. A first tap is connected to a first heat exchanger. The first heat exchanger is connected to a cooling compressor for raising a pressure of the tapped air downstream of the first heat exchanger. A second heat exchanger is downstream of the cooling compressor, and a connection is downstream of the second heat exchanger for delivering air to a bearing compartment. A connection intermediate the cooling compressor and the second heat exchanger delivers cooling air to at least one of the rotatable components.
Auxiliary power unit with intercooler
An auxiliary power unit for an aircraft, having a compressor, an intercooler including first conduit(s) having an inlet in fluid communication with the compressor outlet and second conduit(s) configured for circulation of a coolant therethrough, an engine core having an inlet in fluid communication with an outlet of the first conduit(s), and a bleed conduit in fluid communication with the outlet of the first conduit(s) through a bleed air valve. The auxiliary power unit may include a generator in driving engagement with the shaft of the engine core to provide electrical power for the aircraft. A method of providing compressed air and electrical power to an aircraft is also discussed.
TURBOFAN ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH INTERCOOLER
A turbofan engine assembly including a compressor, an intermittent internal combustion engine having an inlet in fluid communication with an outlet of the compressor through at least one first passage of an intercooler, a turbine having an inlet in fluid communication with an outlet of the intermittent internal combustion engine, the turbine compounded with the intermittent internal combustion engine, a bypass duct surrounding the intermittent internal combustion engine, compressor and turbine, and a fan configured to propel air through the bypass duct and through an inlet of the compressor, wherein the intercooler is located in the bypass duct, the intercooler having at least one second passage in heat exchange relationship with the at least one first passage, the at least one second passage in fluid communication with the bypass duct.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR INCREASING POWER OUTPUT IN A WASTE HEAT DRIVEN AIR BRAYTON CYCLE TURBOCHARGER SYSTEM
Various systems and methods are provided for a turbocharger system. In one example, a system for use with a power generator having a rotary machine including a combustor comprises: a heat exchanger positioned to receive exhaust gases from the combustor; and a turbocharger system, comprising: a low pressure compressor fluidly coupled to the heat exchanger and adapted to supply gases to the heat exchanger; a low pressure turbine and a high pressure turbine each fluidly coupled to the heat exchanger and adapted to receive gases from the heat exchanger; a high pressure compressor fluidly coupled to the rotary machine and the low pressure compressor, adapted to receive gases from the low pressure compressor and supply compressed air to the rotary machine; and a water injector adapted to inject water into a flow path between the low pressure compressor and the heat exchanger.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR INCREASING POWER OUTPUT IN A WASTE HEAT DRIVEN AIR BRAYTON CYCLE TURBOCHARGER SYSTEM
Various systems and methods are provided for a turbocharger system. In one example, system for use with a power generator having a rotary machine including a combustor comprises: a heat exchanger positioned to receive exhaust gases from the combustor; and a turbocharger system, comprising: a low pressure turbocharger including a low pressure turbine adapted to receive gas flow from the heat exchanger and a low pressure compressor adapted to supply compressed air to the heat exchanger; a high pressure turbocharger including a high pressure turbine adapted to receive gas flow from the heat exchanger and a high pressure compressor adapted to receive gas flow from the low pressure compressor and supply compressed air to the rotary machine; and a second combustor adapted to inject exhaust gases into a flow path arranged between the heat exchanger and an inlet to each of the high pressure turbine and the low pressure turbine.
System and method for oxidant compression in a stoichiometric exhaust gas recirculation gas turbine system
A system includes a gas turbine system having a turbine combustor, a turbine driven by combustion products from the turbine combustor, and an exhaust gas compressor driven by the turbine. The exhaust gas compressor is configured to compress and supply an exhaust gas to the turbine combustor. The gas turbine system also has an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. The EGR system is configured to recirculate the exhaust gas along an exhaust recirculation path from the turbine to the exhaust gas compressor. The system further includes a main oxidant compression system having one or more oxidant compressors. The one or more oxidant compressors are separate from the exhaust gas compressor, and the one or more oxidant compressors are configured to supply all compressed oxidant utilized by the turbine combustor in generating the combustion products.
