System and method for controlling fuel flow to an aircraft engine during start

A method and system for controlling fuel flow to an aircraft engine during start are provided. Following light-off, an actual value of at least one engine operating parameter is obtained. Based on a difference between the actual value and a target value, a first command is generated to cause fuel flow to be provided to the engine's combustor according to a computed fuel flow rate defined by a fuel schedule of the engine. When the computed fuel flow rate is within a fuel flow rate limit, the first command is output. Otherwise, a limiting factor is applied to the computed fuel flow rate to limit a reduction in fuel flow to the combustor and a limited fuel flow rate is obtained, and a second command is output to cause fuel flow to be provided to the combustor according to the limited fuel flow rate.

An aircraft includes an engine, a fuel tank, a chamber, a system, and an introduction line. The chamber is located in the tank, occupies only a part of the tank, and includes a sensor for measuring a property of the fuel. The system injects fuel into the line. The introduction line introduces fuel from the injection system into the chamber. The introduction line includes a valve capable of preventing an introduction of fuel from the injection system into the chamber via the line.

ENGINE BLEED AIR SYSTEM WITH WASTE GATE VALVE FOR COMPRESSOR SURGE MANAGEMENT

A gas turbine engine includes a main engine compressor section. A booster compressor changes a pressure of airflow received from the main engine compressor section to a pressure desired for a pneumatic system. The booster compressor is configured to operate at airflow conditions greater than a demand of the pneumatic system. An exhaust valve controls airflow between an exhaust outlet and an outlet passage to the pneumatic system. The exhaust valve is operable to exhaust airflow from the booster compressor in excess of the demand of the pneumatic system. A bleed air system for a gas turbine engine and a method of controlling engine bleed airflow are also disclosed.

The correction factor is applied to the nominal fuel flow to produce an estimated fuel flow to control combustion in the engine.

Gas turbine fuel flow measurement using inert gas

The fuel flow rate to a gas turbine is measured using an inert gas. The inert gas is injected into the fuel flow and the concentration of the inert gas in the fuel/inert gas mixture is later measured. The concentration of the inert gas in the fuel/inert gas mixture is then used to calculate the mass flow rate of the fuel.
