Feed forward load sensing for hybrid electric systems
Hybrid electric systems and methods therefore are provided. In one exemplary aspect, a hybrid electric system includes an engine, an electric machine operatively coupled thereto and configured to generate electrical power when driven by the engine. One or more electrical loads are electrically connectable with the electric machine. An engine controller of the engine receives load state data indicative of electrical loads that anticipate electrically disconnecting from or electrically connecting to the electric machine at a predetermined time. In this way, the engine controller can anticipate electrical load changes and the engine can be controlled to adjust its torque output in anticipation of the electrical load change. In another exemplary aspect, a hybrid electric system is provided that includes features for nearly instantaneously reacting to load changes on the engine based on load state data received from feed forward inputs of the electrical system of the hybrid electric system.
CONTROLLER AND METHOD
A controller for a gas turbine arranged to supply a load is described. The gas turbine includes a fuel supply arranged to supply fuel at a fuel flow rate to a combustor. The fuel supply includes a first fuel supply and a second fuel supply. The controller is arranged to control a proportion of the fuel flow rate supplied via the first fuel supply based, at least in part, on the fuel flow rate. A gas turbine includes such a controller and a method controls such a gas turbine.
APPARATUS STATE ESTIMATION DEVICE, APPARATUS STATE ESTIMATION METHOD AND PROGRAM
A state quantity acquisition unit acquires a state quantity of a target apparatus including a temperature of the target apparatus. A load specification unit specifies a load history of the target apparatus, based on the state quantity. A remaining life calculation unit calculates a parameter related to a remaining life of the target apparatus for each of a plurality of degradation types, based on the load history specified by the load specification unit.
Torque monitoring device for a gas turbine engine
A gas turbine engine includes a fan section having a fan rotatable with a fan shaft and a turbomachinery section having a turbine and a turbomachine shaft rotatable with the turbine. A power gearbox is also provided mechanically coupled to both the fan shaft and the turbomachine shaft such that the fan shaft is rotatable by the turbomachine shaft across the power gearbox. A torque monitoring system includes a gearbox sensor operable with a gear of the power gearbox and a shaft sensor operable with at least one of the turbomachine shaft or the fan shaft. The torque monitoring system determines an angular position of the gear of the gearbox relative to at least one of the fan shaft or the turbomachine shaft using the gearbox sensor and the shaft sensor to determine a torque within the gas turbine engine.
FILTER UNIT QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND FILTER UNIT QUALITY MANAGEMENT METHOD
The present application relates to a system for quality management of a filter unit disposed in an intake passage. The system includes a plurality of evaluation parameter detection units configured to detect an evaluation parameter relating to of each filter constituting a filter layer of the filter unit. By determining a distribution of the evaluation parameter based on the detection values, the quality evaluation is performed.
Independently controllable wheel for a turbine section of a gas turbine engine
A turbine section for a gas turbine engine includes an independently controllable wheel downstream of the first static vane structure and a turbine rotor downstream of the independently controllable wheel. A method of generating thrust for a gas turbine engine, includes rotating a independently controllable wheel located downstream of a combustor and upstream of a turbine rotor to augment a swirl of a core flow combustion gases.
Thrust reverser flow limiting valve
The present subject matter can be embodied in, among other things, a two-speed thrust reverser actuation system for actuating a thrust reverser element experiencing an assisting load during movement between a stowed and deployed positions. The system includes a hydraulic actuator to move the thrust reverser element between the stowed and deployed positions, and a directional control valve with a regeneration feature including a restrictor and a velocity fuse arranged in parallel with the restrictor. The velocity fuse is configured to close when the assisting load on the thrust reverser element increases the flow rate of hydraulic fluid through the velocity fuse above threshold value. In operation, the system defines a first movement speed when the velocity fuse is open, and a second movement speed when the velocity fuse is closed, thereby decreasing an effective exit orifice size of the hydraulic actuator when the assisting load increases the deploy rate.
SHAFT SHEAR DETECTION IN A GAS TURBINE ENGINE
There is described herein methods and systems for detecting a shaft event, such as a shaft shear, a shaft decoupling, and/or a shaft failure in a gas turbine engine comprising a first spool and a second spool different from the first spool. A first parameter indicative of one of power of the first spool and a load transfer through a shaft of the second spool is obtained and a second parameter indicative of the other one of power of the first spool and the load transfer through the shaft of the second spool is obtained. A detection threshold is determined as a function of the first parameter. The second parameter is compared to the detection threshold. The shaft event is detected when the second parameter is beyond the detection threshold and then a signal indicative of the shaft event is transmitted.
CREATING 3D MARK ON PROTECTIVE COATING ON METAL PART USING MASK AND METAL PART SO FORMED
A method for creating a three-dimensional (3D) mark in a protective coating including at least one of a TBC and a bond coating over a metal part, is provided. The method may include positioning a mask over the protective coating, the mask including an opening pattern therein; and performing an abrasive waterjet process on the protective coating using the mask. The abrasive waterjet erodes a first portion of the protective coating exposed through the first opening pattern to create the 3D mark. The mask is removed, leaving the 3D mark in the protective coating. The 3D mark only partially penetrates through the protective coating. A metal part may include a metal body, a protective coating over the metal body, and the 3D mark in the protective coating, is also provided. The 3D mark in the protective coating may include an opening having a width of between 30 and 300 micrometers.
Strain measuring device for bearing compartment
A thrust-sensing assembly for a bearing compartment of a gas turbine engine includes a spacer and a retaining ring. The spacer includes an outer frusto-conical portion and an inner ring. The outer frusto-conical portion includes an axial row of a plurality of slots. Each slot of the plurality of slots includes a first rounded end, a second rounded end, a first side-face, and a second side face that faces the first side-face. The retaining ring includes a plurality of axial extensions with distal ends that are in contact with the outer frusto-conical portion of the spacer.
