Oil lubrication systems for use on gas turbine engines are described. The systems include a conduit and an air/oil separator connected to and arranged along the conduit. The air/oil separator comprises includes a housing and a semi-permeable divider within the housing, the semi-permeable divider being permeable to air but not oil. The semi-permeable divider separates a first flow path of an air/oil mixture and a second flow path of low pressure such that air from the air/oil mixture passes through the semi-permeable divider and is removed from the air/oil mixture, and wherein an air-to-oil ratio is less at the second end of the first flow path as compared to the air-to-oil ratio at the first end of the first flow path.

Water vapor distillation apparatus, method and system

A fluid vapor distillation apparatus. The apparatus includes a source fluid input, and an evaporator condenser apparatus. The evaporator condenser apparatus includes a substantially cylindrical housing and a plurality of tubes in the housing. The source fluid input is fluidly connected to the evaporator condenser and the evaporator condenser transforms source fluid into steam and transforms compressed steam into product fluid. Also included in the fluid vapor distillation apparatus is a heat exchanger fluidly connected to the source fluid input and a product fluid output. The heat exchanger includes an outer tube and at least one inner tube. Also included in the fluid vapor distillation apparatus is a regenerative blower fluidly connected to the evaporator condenser. The regenerative blower compresses steam, and the compressed steam flows to the evaporative condenser where compressed steam is transformed into product fluid.

The parts include a polymeric substrate plated with one or more metal layers. The polymeric material of the polymeric substrate may be structurally reinforced with materials that may include carbon, metal, or glass. The polymeric substrate may also include a plurality of layers to form a composite layup structure.

A gas turbine engine includes an airfoil having a core that has a first hardness and a surface on the core. The surface includes a plurality of geometric features that have a second, greater hardness. The geometric features define a surface porosity by area percent and a corresponding surface solidity by area percent. The surface includes a ratio of the surface solidity divided by the surface porosity that is 1.8 or greater. The geometric features and the ratio establish the surface to be hydrophobic, and the second, greater hardness and the ratio establish an erosion rate of the surface that is equal to or less than an erosion rate of the core under identical erosion conditions.

Ultra high temperature environmental protection coating

An environmental protective coating (EPC) for protecting a surface subjected to high temperature environments of more than 3000 degree F. The coating includes a dense platelet lamellar microstructure with a self-sealing, compliant binder material for holding the platelets together. The platelets may be formed from materials that are resistant to high temperatures and impermeable, such as ceramics. The lamellar microstructure creates a tortuous path for oxygen to reach the surface. The binder material includes engineered free internal volume, which increases the elastic strain of the EPC. The binder is softer than the platelets, which in combination with its free volume increases pliability of the EPC. The binder may have sufficient glass content and glass-forming content for initial and long-term sealing purposes.
