Turbine engine including a gas path component having a hydrophobic coating

A turbine engine for an aircraft. The turbine engine includes a combustor and a steam system. Fuel and steam are injected into the combustor to mix with compressed air to generate a fuel and air mixture. The fuel and air mixture is combusted in the combustor to generate combustion gases. The steam system is fluidly coupled to the combustor as the steam source to provide steam to the combustor. The steam system includes a hot gas path and a steam hot gas path component. The hot gas path is fluidly coupled to the combustor to receive the combustion gases and to route the combustion gases through the steam system. The steam hot gas path component includes a wall having a combustion-gas-facing surface facing the hot gas path and a hydrophobic coating formed on the combustion-gas-facing surface.

Ultra high temperature environmental protection coating

An environmental protective coating (EPC) for protecting a surface subjected to high temperature environments of more than 3000 degree F. The coating includes a dense platelet lamellar microstructure with a self-sealing, compliant binder material for holding the platelets together. The platelets may be formed from materials that are resistant to high temperatures and impermeable, such as ceramics. The lamellar microstructure creates a tortuous path for oxygen to reach the surface. The binder material may have free internal volume to increase the strain capability between the platelets and absorb increased volume during operation. The binder may be formed from a material that is softer and has a lower temperature capability than the platelets to provide the system with the required compliance and sealing capability. The binder may have sufficient glass content and glass-forming content for initial and long-term sealing purposes.

Lip skin with hydrophobic and hydrophlic surfaces for an aircraft aerostructure

An air inlet section for an aircraft propulsion system nacelle includes an outer skin, an inner skin, and a lip skin. The lip skin extends between and to an outer end and an inner end. The outer end is disposed at the outer skin. The inner end is disposed at the inner skin. The lip skin forms an exterior lip skin surface extending from the inner end to the outer end. The exterior lip skin surface forms a leading edge of the lip skin. The exterior lip skin surface includes an outer surface portion and an inner surface portion. The outer surface portion extends from the outer end to the inner surface portion. The outer surface portion forms a hydrophobic surface. The inner surface portion extends from the inner end to the outer surface portion. The inner surface portion forms a hydrophilic surface.

A turbine engine for an aircraft. The turbine engine includes a core turbine engine and a steam system. The steam system extracts water from combustion gases, vaporizes the water to generate steam, and injects the steam into a core air flow path of the core engine to add mass flow to core air. A core hot gas path component may be fluidly connected to a hot gas path that routes combustion gasses from the combustor. The core turbine engine may also include a turbine fluidly connected to the hot gas path to receive the combustion gases. The turbine may include a turbine airfoil. Each of the core hot gas path component and the turbine airfoil includes a combustion-gas-facing surface facing the hot gas path. A hydrophobic coating is formed on the combustion-gas-facing surface, reducing wetting of water vapor within the combustion gases on the core hot gas path component.

DRY GAS SEAL SYSTEM

A dry gas seal system for rotating equipment operating on a process fluid. The system includes: a dry gas seal for sealing rotating equipment; an axial end face separation seal comprising a primary ring, a mating ring, a sleeve for coupling the mating ring to the shaft of the rotating equipment, and a retainer for the primary ring; and an oleophobic coating disposed at least partially over each of the following surfaces of the separation seal: at an outer peripheral edge of the primary ring distal to, and facing away from, the shaft of the rotating equipment; at an outer peripheral edge of the mating ring distal to, and facing away from, the shaft of the rotating equipment; and both surfaces of the mating ring and primary ring which interface with each other.
