The catalytic coating has a first layer in contact with the substrate, the first layer including a first ceramic material and a first noble metal, a second layer in contact with the first layer, the second layer including a second ceramic material and a second noble metal, and a third layer in contact with the second layer, the third layer including a third ceramic material and a third noble metal. The first layer has a plurality of grains having an average diameter, and the first layer has a volume percent porosity. The second layer has a plurality of grains having a bimodal distribution, and the second layer has a volume percent porosity. The third layer has a plurality of grains having an average diameter, and a volume percent porosity.
