There is disclosed a fan track liner assembly 53 for a containment arrangement 50 of a gas turbine engine, the assembly 53 comprising a cellular reactive impact structure 60, wherein cells of the reactive impact structure 60 contain a reactive material having shear-thickening or shear-stiffening properties; whereby the reactive impact structure 60 is compliant during assembly to accommodate geometrical non-compliance in the fan track liner assembly.

PROFILED STRUCTURE AND ASSOCIATED TURBOMACHINE

An airflow profiled structure having a profiled leading edge. The profiled leading edge having, along a leading edge line, a serrated profile line with a succession of teeth and depressions. The airflow profiled structure also includes a porous acoustically absorbent region located towards the bottom of the depressions.

System and method of controlling tip clearance in a shroud assembly for a bladed disc

An assembly in a turbine engine having a dynamically moveable flowpath boundary member for encasing a rotatable bladed disc and maintaining a clearance gap between the flowpath boundary member and the blade tips of the bladed disc. The assembly comprises a static casing, a flowpath boundary member carried by the casing, and a refrigeration system configured to remove heat from the flowpath boundary member to thereby thermally expand and contract the flowpath boundary member to control blade tip clearance.

Acoustic liner and method of forming an acoustic liner

An acoustic liner can comprise a support layer including a set of partitioned cavities defining a set of cells with open faces, as well as a first and second facing sheet operably coupled to the support layer that overlie and close the open faces. A set of aerogel fillings can be provided within at least some of the set of cells.

NOZZLE FOR FOAM WASHING OF JET ENGINE
20200355092 · 2020-11-12 · ·

Turbines and associated equipment are normally cleaned via water or chemical pressure washing via a mist, spray systems. However, these systems fail to reach deep across the gas path to remove fouling materials. Various embodiments herein pertain to apparatus and methods that utilize the water and existing chemicals to generate a foam. The foam can be introduced at that gas-path entrance of the equipment, where it contacts the stages and internal surfaces, to contact, scrub, carry, and remove fouling away from equipment to restore performance. Various embodiments pertain to spout assemblies for providing foam to the compressor of commercial fan engines, and in yet other embodiments to engines receiving air from a long inlet duct, especially those having a serpentine inlet ducts.

Fan housing with metal foam and fan having the fan housing

A fan has a fan housing and an impeller mounted in the fan housing. The fan housing has a main case, and a foamed metal plate securely mounted in an air inlet aperture of the main case. Hot air inhaled into the main case is forced to flow through pores in the foamed metal plate. Thus, heat in the hot air is conducted to the foamed metal plate and then to the main case. The heat in the hot air is dissipated to reduce temperature of the hot air in advance. Accordingly, heat dissipation efficiency of the fan is improved. Since the foamed metal plate hinders flow of the hot air, the hot air flowing into the main case is reduced. Therefore, air pressure and flowing speed of the hot air flowing into the main case is reduced, such that noise made by the fan is also reduced.

Gas turbine engine fan blade, design, and fabrication

An embodiment of a fan blade includes an interior region between a metallic pressure sidewall and a metallic suction sidewall. Each sidewall extends in span from a base to a tip, and extends in chord from a leading edge to a trailing edge. The interior region of the fan blade includes a first fully dense metallic portion and a first porous metallic portion. The first fully dense metallic portion has a volume occupying at least 10% of a total volume of the interior region, and substantially no porosity. The first porous metallic portion is integrally joined to the fully dense metallic portion, and is selected from a structured lattice, an unstructured foam, and combinations thereof.

Air foil with galvanic protection

An air foil includes a body and a filler. The body may include a chamber formed therein and includes a first metallic material. The filler may at least partially occupy the chamber of the body and may include a second metallic material. The second metallic material may have a comparatively more negative electrode potential than the first metallic material.
