Voltage discharge channelling assembly for a gas turbine engine
A gas turbine engine including a composite case having a conductive path therein, and a conductive case connected to the composite case. The conductive case is made of a conductive material. A fastener connects the composite case to the conductive case. The fastener is conductively connected to the conductive material of the conductive case and not directly conductively connected to the conductive path. At least one voltage discharge channeling assembly is connected to the fastener and to the conductive case. The at least one voltage discharge channeling assembly has a portion conductively connected to the conductive path. The at least one voltage discharge channeling assembly is conductively connected to the fastener. A method of assembling an engine casing in a gas turbine engine is also provided.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR FORMING APPARATUS
An apparatus is disclosed including a first article, a second article, and a third article disposed adjacent to one another, with the first article and the second article disposed between the third article and a gas path. The first article includes at least one first ceramic matrix composite ply defining a first cooperating feature. The second article includes at least one second ceramic matrix composite ply defining a second cooperating feature. The first cooperating feature and the second cooperating feature define a restricted flow path from the gas path to the third article, which includes a reduced volumetric flow rate of a gas from the gas path to the third article relative to a non-restricted flow path of a non-cooperating interface. A method for forming the apparatus includes forming and aligning the first cooperating feature and the second cooperating feature.
CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITES HAVING MONOMODAL PORE SIZE DISTRIBUTION AND LOW FIBER VOLUME FRACTION
Ceramic matrix composite articles include, for example, a plurality of unidirectional arrays of fiber tows in a matrix having a monomodal pore size distribution, and a fiber volume fraction between about 15 percent and about 35 percent. The articles may be formed by, for example, providing a shaped preform comprising a prepreg tape layup of unidirectional arrays of fiber tows, a matrix precursor, and a pore former, curing the shaped preform to pyrolyze the matrix precursor and burnout the pore former so that the shaped preform comprises the unidirectional arrays of fiber tows and a porous matrix having a monomodal pore size distribution, and subjecting the cured shaped preform to chemical vapor infiltration to densify the porous matrix so that the ceramic matrix composite article has a fiber volume fraction between about 15 percent and about 35 percent.
HYBRID BLADE FOR TURBOMACHINES
Disclosed is a blade for a turbomachine, comprising an outer shell and an inner core which is at least partially enclosed by the outer shell and has a higher porosity than the outer shell. The outer shell is formed by a ceramic body or a body made of a ceramic matrix composite material, and the inner core is formed by a fiber-reinforced ceramic or a fiber-reinforced ceramic matrix composite material.
COMBINED FAN AND COOLING DEVICE USING THE SAME
A combined fan for cooling a heat source includes a hub and multiple blades. The hub has a first side and a second side opposite to each other. The blades are distributed along an outer circumferential surface of the hub, and each of the blades includes a first part extending from the hub and a second part connected to the first part. Each of the second parts protrudes beyond the first side or the second side, and each of the second parts is formed by multiple strip structures. Therefore, each of the strip structures can be closer to a surface of the heat source to dissipate the heat more effectively.
Cooling air for gas turbine engine with thermally isolated cooling air delivery
A gas turbine engine includes a plurality of rotating components housed within a compressor section and a turbine section. A first tap is connected to the compressor section and configured to deliver air at a first pressure. A heat exchanger is connected downstream of the first tap. A flowpath is defined between a rotating surface and a non-rotating surface. The flowpath is connected downstream of the heat exchanger and is configured to deliver air to at least one of the plurality of rotating components. At least a portion of the non-rotating surface and the rotating surface includes a base metal. An insulation material is disposed on a surface along the flowpath.
Preforms system for CMC blades
A bladed disk preform system is provided. Multiple sheets are formed or provided. Each of the sheets may include multiple ceramic fibers. Slots may be cut in each of the sheets before or after forming. The slots extend from an outer edge of the sheets inward toward a center of the sheets. The sheets are stacked on top of each other to form a bladed disk preform. The bladed disk preform is porous. The bladed disk preform may include a plurality of blade portions extending outward from a root portion. Each of the slots is positioned between adjacent blade portions.
VANE ARC SEGMENT FORMED OF FIBER-REINFORCED COMPOSITE
A vane arc segment includes an airfoil fairing that has a fairing platform and a hollow airfoil section that extends there from. The hollow airfoil section defines an airfoil profile and surrounds an internal cavity. The fairing platform defines a gaspath side and a non-gaspath side. The airfoil fairing is formed of a fiber-reinforced composite comprised of fiber plies.
