PNEUMATIC REMOTE ACTUATING DEVICE

A pneumatic remote actuating device includes an actuator block, an actuated block and a tube connecting the actuator block to the actuated block. The actuator block includes an enclosure that can be mounted on a generally flat surface. A pushbutton protrudes in front of the actuator block. Depressing the pushbutton causes an increase of pressure within an internal chamber of the enclosure. This pressure is transmitted from the actuator block, via the tube, to the actuated block. The actuated block comprises its own enclosure that can be mounted on a generally flat surface to place the actuated block in an overlapping position over an external pushbutton. The pressure transmitted from the actuator block to the actuated block causes a displacement of a pusher mounted in the enclosure of the actuated block. As a result, the pusher actuates the external pushbutton.

A bi-level tank includes a transfer tank and a return tank containing a volume of water, including transfer and return components in the transfer and return tanks, respectively, and a transition component. A bellows couples an upper surface of a piston in the transfer tank to the return component that exerts pressure on the upper surface, while a lower surface of the piston is under pressure from a pressured fluid supplied by a source thereof, producing a pressure differential on the piston. Actuation of a force-applying mechanism on the piston sufficient to overcome the pressure differential displaces the piston for exchanging respective volumes of the return component and the fluid from the source. An extensible and retractable constant-volume boot holds the transition component around the bellows and has valves configured to open and close for equalizing pressure between the boot and the transfer tank.

Hydraulically Amplified Self-healing Electrostatic Actuators

An electro-hydraulic actuator includes a deformable shell defining an enclosed internal cavity and containing a liquid dielectric, first and second electrodes on first and second sides, respectively, of the enclosed internal cavity. An electrostatic force between the first and second electrodes upon application of a voltage to one of the electrodes draws the electrodes towards each other to displace the liquid dielectric within the enclosed internal cavity. The shell includes active and inactive areas such that the electrostatic forces between the first and second electrodes displaces the liquid dielectric within the enclosed internal cavity from the active area of the shell to the inactive area of the shell. The first and second electrodes, the deformable shell, and the liquid dielectric cooperate to form a self-healing capacitor, and the liquid dielectric is configured for automatically filling breaches in the liquid dielectric resulting from dielectric breakdown.
