A fastening system has a fastening element and at least one fastening device having a flanged housing, a closure element, a hollow-sphere element and a spherical insert. The hollow-sphere element pivots about a first pivoting axis relative to the flanged housing, while the spherical insert pivots about a second pivoting axis in the hollow-sphere element. First engagement means in an opening of the spherical insert are of complementary design to second engagement means of the fastening element. The first and second engagement means are designed such that, in a first rotational position, the fastening element can be inserted freely into the opening and, in a second rotational position, the first and second engagement means engage in one another.

The head portion of the bolt is received within aperture of the block and the shaft extends at least partially outside of the block beyond the upper opening. The first and second portions of the aperture are configured so as to permit selected movement of the bolt within the aperture relative to the block.

The assembly comprises a base configured to clamp onto a portion of the conventional side view mirror cover. A frontward portion of the base may form a ridge defining a mounting surface configured to retain a mirror. An auxiliary mirror may be set in a frame comprising a back side opposite a reflective surface of the auxiliary mirror, and an arm, securable to the mounting surface, may extend outward from the back side of the frame. When coupled to the mounting surface by way of the arm, the auxiliary mirror may be adjustable, relative to its mounted position, according to the needs of the driver and may be operative to reduce blind spots otherwise experienced by the driver.
