The shank end radius transitions tangentially into the shank inner surface and the flat shank end face is connected to the shank outer surface by a cutting edge.
Double-ended dual attached fastener
A double ended dual attached fastener includes a first portion having a stud bolt, a second portion configured to anchor to a panel member, and a flange nut partitioning the first end and the second end. The flange nut includes a flat interior annular surface facing the second portion. The flange nut includes a plurality of radially spaced weld projections extending toward the second portion. The weld projection includes a material that amendable to form a weld joining the flange nut to a panel member through which the second portion is inserted. The second portion defines a fastener selected from a group consisting of a self-tapping friction screw, a self-piercing rivet, and a swage bolt.
Riveted watch band
Watch band comprising lower and upper half band portions connected at a fold portion to surround a watch lug at the fold portion, each comprising a drilled hole for the passage of a double rivet comprising lower and upper bodies, either inserted one inside the other or each inserted into a common tube, the band including, at each double rivet, a snap means for ensuring a reversible axial stop for the lower body with respect to the upper body, comprising either a holding plate aligning lower and upper grooves of the lower and upper bodies, or two lower and upper clip lips of the common tube each clip fitted onto a complementary lower or upper lip of the lower or upper body.
WIRE MESH RIVET
A wire mesh rivet (13) is provided which is used to produce a wire mesh isolator (11) in a bore (9) of a substrate such as a heat shield (7) for a vehicle exhaust system. The rivet (13) comprises a unitary wire mesh structure (19) which has a collar (15) and a shank (17). The collar (15) has a higher density than the shank (17), e.g., the collar (15) has the density of the finished isolator (11). The rivet (13) is formed into the finished isolator (11) by compressing the shank (17) to form a second collar, while restraining the original collar (15) from substantially changing its shape. The rivet (13) can include a metal insert (23) which prevents the wire mesh of the finished isolator (11) from experiencing high levels of compression when the substrate is fastened to its supporting structure. The rivets (13) can be carried by a dispensing strip (31) and can be formed into the finished isolator (11) using forming equipment (39) whose dimensions are compatible with the limited space available with some substrates.

Bonding objects together
A method of bonding a connector to a first object includes providing the first object and the connector, the connector extending between a proximal end and a distal end and has a connector body that forms a distally facing punching edge. At least one of the connector and of the first object includes a thermoplastic material in a solid state. The method further includes driving the connector into the first object and coupling mechanical vibration into the connector until the connector extends through a portion of the first object from a proximal side to a distal side thereof and material of the first object is punched out by the connector body, and until at least a flow portion of the thermoplastic material becomes flowable and flows relative to the first object and the connector body while the connector body remains solid. Thereafter, the thermoplastic material is allowed to re-solidify.
Method for injection molded rivet style fastener and housing with snap assembly functionality along with an injection molding process for producing such a rivet without an undercut feature
A method for producing and installing a fastener, including the steps of forming an engaging portion having a projecting stem which is interiorly hollowed over at least an intermediate extending range, the stem including a solid end most extending portion, and forming a receiving portion having a surface, within which is configured an inner rim defined edge, a diameter of an aperture between said rim edge being less than a diameter of the stem. Additional steps include pressing the solid end most extending portion of the engaging portion through the inner rim edge of the receiving portion and aligning with the inner rim edge a location of the interiorly hollowed portion of the stem, causing inward collapsing of the aligned location by the rim edge to secure the engaging portion to the receiving portion.

Method of manufacturing self-pierce rivets
A method of manufacturing self-pierce rivets from a length of wire comprises separating the length of wire to form a plurality of slugs, each slug defining a head end and a tail end. The method further comprises forging a plurality of rivets from the slugs, each rivet having a head formed from the head end of a slug and a tip formed from the tail end of that slug, the head and the tip of the rivet being separated by a shank which defines a longitudinal axis, the rivet having a bore which runs substantially longitudinally through the tip and at least part way along the shank. For each of the plurality of rivets, the method comprises performing a machining operation on the tip the rivet or on the tail end of the slug from which the rivet was forged.
Hole punch and also a method for the piercing of a workpiece which is present as a foam material and/or as a sandwich material and also a method for the manufacture of the hole punch
A hole punch and a method for piercing a workpiece wherein a hole punch includes a sheet metal part and a piercing body attached thereto which carries out the piercing function and which is provided with a thread cylinder or can be provided with a thread cylinder, for example by pressing a threaded pin into a centrally arranged passage of the hole punch, wherein the hole punch can also be formed in one piece as a piercing body with a sheet metal-like flange. Furthermore a method is claimed for the manufacture of the hole punch.
