The dissimilar material joint structure 1 includes a plate member 20, a weld nut 10 on a front surface of the plate member, and a washer 30 on a back surface of the plate member. The weld nut and the plate member are made of dissimilar materials different from each other. The weld nut includes a projection 12 on a bearing surface thereof. The plate member has a bolt through-hole 23 located on a center axis of the weld nut, for passing therethrough a bolt 40 corresponding to the weld nut and a projection through-hole 24 on the periphery of the bolt through-hole. The projection through-hole is penetrable by the projection. The weld nut is not directly welded to the plate member but joined to the plate member by being welded to the washer via the projection penetrating the projection through-hole.
Self-punching functional element, component assembly, and method of manufacturing a component assembly
A self-punching functional element serves for the fastening to a workpiece and comprises a head part that has an abutment surface for introducing a punching force directed in a punching direction into the functional element and a rivet section that extends away from the head part in the punching direction and that comprises a free end that is provided with a first punching edge for punching a slug out of the workpiece. The functional element further comprises a functional section that has a punching pilot that is radially surrounded by the rivet section, that extends away from the head part in the punching direction, and that has a second punching edge for punching a hole into the slug. The second punching edge is set back with respect to the first punching edge in the punching direction.
Fastener Installation Tool
A clinch-in fastener with a cylindrical body having a top, a bottom, sides and an axial internal bore. The fastener has a single shank at the bottom end of the body having a top surface orthogonal to the bore and a chamfer tapering to the bottom of the body. The top surface of the shank is adapted for receiving the cold flow of material surrounding a receiving hole of a workpiece. The shank may have a plurality of notches in its outermost edge that extend through both the top surface of the shank and the chamfer. The bore of the fastener extends completely through the fastener body from top to bottom and may be threaded. A fastener installation system having a tool with means for affixation to a rotary and vertically reciprocal element of an industrial machine. The tip of the tool has a distal end face with at least one arcuate displacer adapted for deforming a workpiece as the tool rotates and is pressed against the workpiece. A bore within the tip holds a fastener installed by the tool. The displacer is vertically and radially tapered along an arcuate ridge centered about the axial bore. The width of the displacer is also tapered to a point.
Securing a second object to a first object
A method of anchoring a connector in a first object, wherein the first object is a lightweight building element having a first outer building layer and an interlining layer, and wherein the connector includes thermoplastic material in a solid state. The method includes: bringing a coupling surface portion of the connector into contact with an attachment location of the first outer building layer; displacing a portion of the first outer building layer at the attachment location with respect to the interlining layer by applying a first pressing force to the first outer building layer and thereby piercing the first outer building layer; applying a second pressing force to the connector and transferring energy to the connector until a flow portion of the thermoplastic material has liquefied and flown to interpenetrate structures of the interlining layer; and stopping the energy transfer and allowing the flow portion to re-solidify.
Apparatus for Fastening a Functional Element to a Section of a Workpiece
The present invention relates to an apparatus for fastening a functional element to a section of a workpiece and/or for reshaping a section of the workpiece, said apparatus comprising a support device for supporting the workpiece, wherein the workpiece section has a first surface facing the support device and a second surface facing away from the support device. The support device comprises a first support element having a first workpiece support surface that is associated with the first surface, and a second support element having a second workpiece support surface that faces away from the first workpiece support surface and that is associated with a supporting surface. The first and the second support element are movable relative to one another by means of a spreading device such that the first and the second workpiece support surface can be moved away from one another in an axial direction, in particular wherein the axial direction extends perpendicular to the first and/or second workpiece support surface.
METHOD OF FITTING FASTENER TO OBJECT
A method of fitting a fastener to an object is introduced. The fastener has a weldable surface and an engaging portion or a hole portion. One end of the hole portion or one end of the engaging portion has a holding portion. During a welding heating process, solder flows into or enters the holding portion and then cools down and solidifies therein so as to be held therein. Therefore, the weldable surface and the holding portion together enable the fastener to be firmly coupled to an object. The engaging portion and the hole portion together enable an object to be coupled to or removed from another object, so as to couple together and separate at least two objects repeatedly and quickly.
Method for the attachment of a hollow element such as a hollow rivet or a nut element to a component consisting of a composite material
A method for the attachment of a hollow element such as a hollow rivet or a nut element to a component consisting of a composite material, with the element having a flange part and a shaft part or rivet section extending away from the flange part, wherein a rivet section can also be formed at the free end of a shaft part. The hollow element has a central passage which is optionally provided with a thread cylinder. In the method an auxiliary tip is either passed from the flange side of the element remote from the shaft part and/or the rivet section through the passage or is introduced from the side of the free end of the shaft part and/or of the rivet section into the passage such that a conically converging region of the auxiliary tip projects from the free end of the shaft part or of the rivet section. The hollow element is pressed with the tip to the fore against the component and the tip is pressed through the component until the component comes into engagement with the side of the flange part adjacent to it and the tip has produced a hole in the component.
Blind rivet insert, a component with an installed blind rivet insert and method for installing such a blind rivet insert in a component opening
A blind rivet insert having a head forming an annular flange and a shank extending from an underside of the head, and having a head end, a foot end and a bore extending from the head end to the foot end. The insert has a first bore segment near the foot end, provided with an internal thread, and a second bore segment near the head end whose diameter is greater than that of the first bore segment. The underside of the head includes an annular groove adapted for receiving a sealing ring in a mounted condition of the blind rivet insert. An annular retaining shank groove extends circumferentially around the shank, is arranged adjacent to the underside of the head, and retains the sealing ring in a preloaded position before mounting the blind rivet insert.
