Power transmission shaft and method for manufacturing same

A propeller shaft (1) that is a power transmission shaft has a shaft member (2) as a tubular body made of iron-based metal and a balance weight (3) made of iron-based metal and welded to an outer peripheral surface of this shaft member (2). At least a part of the balance weight (3) of the propeller shaft (1) is covered with a sacrificial metal coating (4) made of sacrificial corrosion prevention material that contains metal whose ionization tendency is higher than that of metal forming the shaft member (2). With this, it is possible to suppress local progression of corrosion at a periphery of the balance weight (3) and improve durability of the propeller shaft (1).

Composite vehicle driveshaft assembly with bonded end yoke and method for producing same

A composite vehicle driveshaft assembly includes a composite tube and a yoke bonded to one of the ends of the tube. The yoke has an inner sleeve that is concentrically received in the end of the tube. The sleeve has an outer peripheral surface that faces the inner peripheral surface of the tube with a cavity formed therebetween. An adhesive injection passage is formed in the yoke and extends at an acute angle from an inlet that is formed in an axial surface of the yoke to an outlet that is formed in the outer peripheral surface of the sleeve and that opens into the cavity. Also disclosed is a method of bonding a yoke of such a driveshaft assembly to a composite tube.

MIDSHAFT RATING FOR TURBOMACHINE ENGINES

A turbomachine engine includes a core engine having one or more compressor sections, one or more turbine sections that includes a power turbine, and a combustion chamber in flow communication with the compressor sections and turbine sections. The turbomachine engine also includes a shaft coupled to the power turbine and characterized by a midshaft rating (MSR) between two hundred (ft/sec).sup.1/2 and three hundred (ft/sec).sup.1/2. In one aspect, the shaft has a redline speed between fifty and two hundred fifty feet per second (ft/sec). In another aspect, the shaft has a length L, an outer diameter D, and a ratio of L/D between twelve and thirty-seven.

A tie rod reinforcement device for reinforcing a vehicle steering tie rod assembly includes a metal brace assembly that reinforces a threaded section of the vehicle steering tie rod assembly. The brace assembly includes an outer surface and an inner cavity having an inner surface. Portions of the inner and outer tie rods are disposed in the inner cavity when the brace assembly is installed on a vehicle. The inner surface of the brace assembly includes a first portion having a first diameter and a second portion having a second diameter different from the first diameter. The first diameter and second diameter are about equal to an outer diameter of the inner tie rod and outer tie rod, respectively, so that the inner surface is in direct contact with the inner tie rod and outer tie rod when the apparatus is installed on the vehicle.

Propeller shaft crash collapse assembly

A shaft assembly. The shaft assembly includes a joint assembly having a first joint member, a second joint member and one or more third joint members drivingly connecting said first and second joint members. At least a portion of a first shaft is drivingly connected to the second joint member. Circumferentially extending from at least a portion of an outer surface of a second end portion of the first shaft is a first and second increased diameter portion having a wall portion that connects the first increased diameter portion to the second increased diameter portion. Drivingly connected to the second increased diameter portion of the first shaft is a second shaft. During a crash condition, an amount of force is applied to the wall portion until it fractures and at least a portion of the first shaft and/or the joint assembly translates into a hollow portion of the second shaft.

Power transmission shaft

A propeller shaft as a power transmission shaft is provided between vehicle-side first second shaft parts, and a first tube as a first shaft member is connected to the first shaft part through a first joint member and to the second shaft part through a second joint member. The first tube is connected to the first joint member through a first collar member and to the second joint member through a second collar member. The first collar member includes a first main body part exposed from a first end portion of the first tube, and a first insertion part inserted into the inside of the first end portion. In at least the first collar member, the maximum value of the outer diameter of the first main body part is set to be no greater than the maximum value of the outer diameter of the first insertion part.

Transmission shaft and method and device for the production thereof
