Bearing assemblies and bearing apparatuses are disclosed. In an embodiment, a first bearing assembly includes tilting pads and a first plurality of sliding superhard bearing elements secured to a first support ring. In an embodiment, a second bearing assembly includes a substantially continuous bearing element secured to a second support ring. In an embodiment, a bearing apparatus includes the first bearing assembly and the second bearing assembly, with the substantially continuous bearing element generally facing the tilting pads. At relatively low rotational speeds, the first plurality of superhard bearing elements supports at least a portion of a load exerted on the bearing assembly. At relatively high rotational speeds, the tilting pads support at least a majority of the load.

Molten Metal Transfer Pump

(57) Molten metal transfer pump, in which a shaft (4) with the impeller (5) mounted on the shaft (4) is installed on the upper bearing (2) and the lower journal plain bearing (3). The lower journal plain bearing (3) has rotor (15) and stator (16) parts. The rotor part (15) is made in the form of two split bushings (17) mounted on the shaft (4), and the stator part (16) is made in the form of two split bushings (18) fixed in the cage (19) in axial alignment with the shaft (4). Bushings (17) (18) are fixed correspondingly with flat rings (24) (33) and composed of cylinder segments (20), (28) equidistantly placed in a circumferential direction, located correspondingly in the cylindrical groove (21) on the shaft and cylindrical groove (29) of the cage (19) and fixed with cone hold-down rings (22), (30) radially, and with spring rings (23), (31) axially.

Internal Cooling Bearing Pads
20170321754 · 2017-11-09 ·

A fluid bearing for use in turbomachinery including at least one bearing pad configured to be arranged about a rotating member of the turbomachinery. Each bearing pad includes an internal cooling opening defined in the bearing pad and an internal channel network defined in the bearing pad with at least one channel node in fluid communication with the internal cooling opening and at least two passageways in fluid communication with and extending from the channel node through the bearing pad. At least one of the passageways extends to an exterior surface of the bearing pad to define at least one cooling discharge opening.
