A half thrust bearing having a semi-annular shape includes a sliding surface for receiving an axial force of a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine, and a rear surface on an opposite side of the sliding surface, and defines a reference plane on the rear surface side that is perpendicular to an axial direction. The sliding surface includes a flat surface portion near a circumferentially central portion and in parallel with the reference plane, and inclined surface portions on both sides of the flat surface portion in a circumferential direction. At any radial positions of the half thrust bearing, an axial distance between the reference plane and the sliding surface is maximum at the flat surface portion, and is reduced in the inclined surface portions toward both circumferential end portions of the half thrust bearing.

A half thrust bearing includes a sliding surface for receiving an axial force of a crankshaft of an engine, and a rear surface on an opposite side thereto. The sliding surface includes a flat surface portion near a circumferentially central portion, and two inclined flat surface portions on both circumferential sides of the flat surface portion. The axial distance between the rear surface and the sliding surface is maximum at the flat surface portion. At any radial positions, the axial distance in each inclined flat surface portion is maximum on a circumferentially central portion side and is reduced toward a circumferential end portion of the half thrust bearing. Each inclined flat surface portion is arranged to form one constant thickness portion extending linearly from a radially inner end to a radially outer end at a circumferential angle of 45.

Air foil thrust bearing

The present disclosure relates to an improved air foil thrust bearing having a reduced number of components and an increased load support area. The improved air foil thrust bearing comprises a base plate and a plurality of foils attached to the base plate, wherein each of the foils comprises a top foil section and a bump foil section connected to and integral with the top foil section.

Improvements in or Relating to Gas Bearings

A gas bearing system has at least one gas bearing (30, 32, 34) with a moving part and a static part and which can be operated in both aero-dynamic and aero-static modes. The system has a source (36) of pressurised gas fluidly connected with the bearing and a control system (134) for regulating the supply of pressurised gas to the bearing in dependence on the rotational speed of the moving part. The system has particular application in a turbocharger (1) where a flow of pressurised gas from the source is introduced into the bearing at the start-up and slow down phases of operation of the turbocharger, the flow being stopped, or reduced, when the turbocharger has reached normal operating speeds.

Methods and systems are provided for a thrust bearing. In one example, a system may include a thrust bearing located adjacent to a crankshaft and a connecting rod. The thrust bearing may comprise one or more angular surfaces configured to capture and direct lubricant to a crankshaft.

Turbocharger thrust bearing

An improved thrust bearing for a turbocharger includes a first bearing surface, a second bearing surface, an internal passageway, a primary pad, and a plurality of secondary pads. The internal passageway fluidly connects the first and second bearing surfaces. The primary pad may be defined on the first bearing surface. The primary pad further defines a first aperture in fluid communication with the internal passageway and an oil feed defined in a turbocharger housing. The plurality of secondary pads may also be defined on the first bearing surface. Each secondary pad in the plurality of secondary pads may include a secondary surface area which is smaller than the primary surface area of the primary pad.
