A support assembly for a bearing of a gas turbine engine includes a shaft extending along an axial direction. The support assembly includes an outer race positioned radially exterior to the bearing such that the outer race supports the bearing. Additionally, the support assembly includes a shape memory alloy damper positioned radially exterior to the outer race and at least partially supporting the outer race. Moreover, the shape memory alloy damper includes a plurality of sleeves. One or more sleeves of the plurality of sleeves include a shape memory alloy material.

A device for centring and rotationally guiding a turbomachine shaft includes a rolling-element bearing outer ring; a bearing support having a radially inner annular surface surrounding the outer ring; a connection structure connecting the outer ring to the bearing support and including an elastically deformable structure; a first cavity formed between the radially inner annular surface and the outer ring to receive a first damping fluid film; at least one second cavity formed between the bearing support and the connection structure which is arranged radially outside the radially inner annular surface to receive a second respective damping fluid film. Such an arrangement allows for the coexistence of damping fluid films having very different damping properties.

A system for controlling shaft displacement within a support structure, the system having a rotatable shaft, at least one bearing supporting the shaft, the at least one bearing having an inner race rotatable along with the shaft and an outer race circumferentially surrounding the inner race, an electromagnet assembly positioned about the shaft along a longitudinal axis thereof, and a controller that detects a radial motion of the shaft and determines a corrective force to reduce the radial motion of, or a parameter related to, the shaft, the controller commanding the electromagnet assembly to generate the corrective force to act on the shaft, the electromagnet assembly having a plurality of phases spaced circumferentially about the shaft, the controller commanding different phases of the electromagnet assembly to generate the corrective force so that a vector of the corrective force rotates about the longitudinal axis of the shaft.
Controllable magneto-rheological device for gas turbine engine
A controllable magneto-rheological device includes an annular cylinder formed by inner and outer walls connected at first and second opposing ends and forming an inner shaft configured to receive an operational component of an engine, generator or other device including one or more rotating structures. A magneto-rheological fluid is provided to fill a volume between the inner and outer walls of the annular cylinder. A plurality of electro-magnetic coils are positioned around the outer wall of the annular cylinder. One or more current controllers are coupled to the plurality of electro-magnetic coils for introducing a current through each of the electro-magnetic coils and corresponding magnetic flux through the magneto-rheological fluid. A level of current provided to each of the plurality of electro-magnetic coils directly affects the viscosity of the magneto-rheological fluid and thus the stiffness and damping levels of the controllable magneto-rheological device.
Vehicle weight measurement device
A vehicle weight measurement device includes a diaphragm which covers an opening area of a groove portion of a mounting part to form an oil chamber of a predetermined space together with the groove portion; a pressure sensor which detects a change in pressure of measurement fluid in the oil chamber; a first piston which presses the diaphragm; a second piston which presses the first piston; and a bearing unit interposed between the second piston and a spring bush which receives one end of a spring of a suspension device and is relatively rotatable. The bearing unit includes a thrust needle bearing which swingably supports a load in a longitudinal direction of the suspension device, and a slide bush which does not receive a load in the longitudinal direction and receives a load in a radial direction while causing constant damping to swinging.
FLYWHEEL SYSTEMS AND RELATED METHODS
A flywheel system comprises a flywheel rotor comprising a rotor disc and a rotor shaft and has a longitudinal axis extending centrally through the rotor disc and the rotor shaft. The system further comprises a journal assembly configured to facilitate rotation of the flywheel rotor. The journal assembly comprises a sleeve having an aperture extending therethrough from a first end to a second, opposite end, a rod at least partially disposed within the aperture of the sleeve, and a nut coupled to a portion of the rod. The rod has a length greater than the sleeve such that a portion the rod extends axially beyond the first end of the sleeve. A method of forming the flywheel comprises coupling the rod to the rotor shaft and pulling the second end of the rod to tension the rod. The nut maintains the tension in the rod when coupled thereto.
Inter-shaft bearing arrangement
A sleeve is provided for supplying lubricant to an inter-shaft bearing mounted between co-axially mounted inner and outer shafts of a gas turbine engine. The sleeve has a sleeve annular outer surface and a sleeve annular inner surface. At least one lubricant supply connecting member extends from the sleeve outer surface for connection to a lubricant supply. At least one sleeve channel fluidly links the sleeve annular inner surface to the lubricant supply connecting member.

A gas turbine engine component includes a ring comprising a single-piece component having an outer peripheral surface and an inner peripheral surface that surrounds an engine center axis, a plurality of outer diameter pedestals formed in the outer peripheral surface and circumferentially spaced apart from each other, and a plurality of inner diameter pedestals formed in the inner peripheral surface and circumferentially spaced apart from each other. A plurality of recesses are formed in the outer peripheral surface and are circumferentially spaced apart from each other.
AXIALLY RIGID CURVED BEAM WITH SQUEEZE DAMPER
A gas turbine engine component includes an inner support structure surrounding an engine center axis and fixed to an engine static structure, an outer support structure spaced radially outward of the inner support structure, and a curved beam comprised of a plurality of curved beam spring segments that are positioned adjacent to each other to form a ring. The inner and outer support structures are coupled together around the curved beam to enclose the curved beam therebetween and form an assembly. A bearing is spaced radially inward of the assembly.
