The engine drains oil along an oil drain path internally through one or more second struts of the stage of struts.

A lubricant supported electric motor includes a stator and a rotor and a drive hub. The rotor is moveable relative to the stator and a gap is defined between the rotor and the stator. A lubricant is disposed within the gap to support the rotor relative to the stator and provide a bearing mechanism. The drive hub is coupled to the rotor such that rotation of the rotor causes rotation of the drive hub. The drive hub may be connected to the rotor via a coupler member that is torsionally stiff and axially and radially compliant. The stator may be fixed relative to a connection structure that extends radially within the stator. The connection member may support the drive hub for rotation. Lubricant is supplied via a passageway extending through the connection member into a chamber that includes the gap.

As another example, a turbomachine comprising a shaft rotatable about an axis of rotation includes a damping device positioned annularly about the shaft. The damping device comprises a housing and a damper element defining a cavity therebetween for receipt of a damping fluid that has a curved shape. The cavity is curved in a plane extending along the radial and axial directions and including the axis of rotation.

A turbocharger includes a shaft, a compressor wheel, a turbine wheel, and a bearing assembly. The bearing assembly includes an inner race coupled to the shaft, and first and second outer races spaced radially from the inner race. The bearing assembly also includes a first rolling element disposed between the first outer race and the inner race, and a second rolling element disposed between the second outer race and the inner race. The bearing assembly further includes a first biasing member coupled to the first outer race and configured to bias the first outer race toward the second outer race and against the first rolling element to preload the first rolling element, and a second biasing member coupled to the second outer race and configured to bias the second outer race toward the first outer race and against the second rolling element to preload the second rolling element.

A fluid damping structure includes first and second annular elements, first and second inner seals, a first outer seal, a damping chamber, a supply plenum, a fill port, and a plurality of fluid passages. The first and second inner seals are disposed radially between and are engaged with the first annular element and the second annular element. The first outer seal forms a sealing interface between the first and second annular elements. The first outer seal is disposed radially outward from the first and second inner seals. The damping chamber is defined by the first and second annular elements and the first and second inner seals. The supply plenum is disposed contiguous with an axial side of the damping chamber and extends from the second inner seal to the first outer seal. The fill port is in fluid communication with the supply plenum and a source of damping fluid.

The system further comprises a journal assembly configured to facilitate rotation of the flywheel rotor. The journal assembly comprises a sleeve having an aperture extending therethrough from a first end to a second, opposite end, a rod at least partially disposed within the aperture of the sleeve, and a nut coupled to a portion of the rod. The rod has a length greater than the sleeve such that a portion of the rod extends axially beyond the first end of the sleeve. A method of forming the flywheel comprises coupling the rod to the rotor shaft and pulling the second end of the rod to tension the rod. The nut maintains the tension in the rod when coupled thereto.
