HIGH-MODULUS, HIGH-STRENGTH NODULAR IRON AND CRANKSHAFT
A nodular iron alloy and automotive components, such as a crankshaft, are provided. The nodular iron alloy may include iron, about 2.2-3.2 wt % carbon, about 1.7-2.3 wt % silicon, about 0.2-0.6 wt % manganese, a maximum of 0.03 wt % phosphorus, a maximum of 0.02 wt % sulfur, about 0.2-0.6 wt % copper, about 0.1-0.4 wt % chromium, about 0.4-0.8 wt % nickel, about 0.15-0.45 wt % molybdenum, about 0.2-1.0 wt % cobalt, about 0.02-0.06 wt % magnesium, and a maximum of 0.002 wt % rare earth element(s). The nodular iron alloy may have a Young's modulus in the range of 175-195 GPa and an as-cast ultimate tensile strength in the range of 750-950 MPa. This alloy possesses favorable strength, stiffness and noise/vibration/harshness qualities, making it suitable in crankshaft applications. A method of forming the nodular iron alloy includes feeding a magnesium-based material into a molten iron alloy through a continuous system at a constant amount.
LINK COMPONENT WITH OIL HOLE
A link component (150) with an oil hole (150E) is attached to a crankshaft (106) of an internal combustion engine (E), and the oil hole (150E) allows communication from an outside to the crankshaft (106) side. The oil hole (150E) has an inclined surface (150F) along an opening rim on the crankshaft (106) side. A surface other than the oil hole (150E) has a carbon concentration of 0.5 wt % or more. The inclined surface (150F) has a carbon concentration within a range of 0.7 wt % or more and 0.9 wt % or less. Production cost is suppressed, and at the same time, damage is prevented by increasing resistance of the oil-hole part on which stress is liable to concentrate.
High-Speed Bearing with Grooved and Cylindrical Races
A high-speed shaft assembly includes a shaft of a first material and an outer member of a second material disposed about the shaft, the shaft or outer member being rotatable about an axis. The two materials have substantially different coefficients of thermal expansion such that the shaft and/or the outer member is relatively displaceable along the axis at temperatures over 250 F. and less than 0 F. A bearing inner ring is disposed about the shaft and has an outer race which is a cylindrical surface or an annular groove. A bearing outer ring is disposed about the inner ring and coupled with the outer member. The outer ring has an outer race which is the other one of the cylindrical surface and the groove. A plurality of balls disposed between the races are displaceable axially along the cylindrical race surface during relative displacement of the shaft and outer member.
BEARING STEEL COMPONENT, AND STEEL BAR FOR BEARING STEEL COMPONENT
A bearing steel part having a predetermined chemical composition, in which the number density of oxide particles having an equivalent circle diameter of 5 m or more, and containing CaO, Al.sub.2O.sub.3 and SiO.sub.2, such that the content ratio of Al.sub.2O.sub.3 with respect to the total mass of CaO, Al.sub.2O.sub.3, and SiO.sub.2 is 50% by mass or more, is 3.0/cm.sup.2 or less in an arbitrary cross section of the part, and in which the Vickers hardness at a depth of 50 m from a rolling surface is 750 or more, and in which the compressive residual stress at the rolling surface is 900 MPa or more. Also provided is a steel bar for a bearing steel part that is suitable for obtaining the foregoing bearing steel part.
ROLLING BEARING, ROLLING DEVICE, AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING ROLLING DEVICE
A rolling bearing, a rolling device, and a method of manufacturing the rolling device are provided, by which a long life can readily be implemented by suppressing surface damage even on the use condition that the oil film formation performance of a rolling part is poor.
