CONTROLLED-DISPERSION OF SOLID LUBRICIOUS PARTICLES IN A METALLIC ALLOY MATRIX
Methods for making a tribological bearing wear surface for a compressor component are provided. Such methods involve semi-solid metal casting, where an admixture of solid lubricant particles and a metal alloy material is heated to melt the metal alloy material, while the lubricant particles remain in a solid phase. The alloy material and solid lubricant have substantially different densities. The metal alloy material may be a copper, iron, or aluminum alloy, for example. The method further comprises mixing and cooling the admixture to form a semi-solid slurry admixture. Next, the method comprises introducing the semi-solid slurry admixture into a die. Finally, the semi-solid slurry admixture in the die is solidified to form a solid component having the solid lubricant particles homogenously distributed within a metal alloy material matrix, thus forming a metal matrix composite. Compressor components made from such methods are also provided.
Slotted entry bearing with molded seal
A method of manufacturing a slotted entry bearing assembly includes inserting an inner race into a central space of an outer race. The outer race is configured to receive the inner race through at least one slot. Once the inner race is fully inserted into the outer race, it is rotated approximately ninety degrees within the center space, effectively locking the inner race within the outer race. After the inner race is rotated ninety degrees, a molded seal is molded between the inner race and the at least one slot. The molded seal adheres to the at least one slot and is made of a polymeric material. The molding process used to mold the molded seal may be compression molding.
FUNCTIONALLY GRADED COMPOSITE STRUCTURES
A composite ring includes a first region including a first polymeric material; a second region including a second polymeric material; and an interfacial region defining a compositional gradient between the first region and the second region; wherein a wear resistance of the first region is different from a wear resistance of the second region. A composite bearing includes a first layer including a first polymeric material and a first filler; a second layer disposed on the first layer, the second layer including a second polymeric material and a second filler; and an interfacial region defining a compositional gradient between the first layer and the second layer, wherein a wear resistance of the first layer is greater than a wear resistance of the second layer, and wherein a mechanical strength of the second layer is greater than a mechanical strength of the first layer.
SELF-LUBRICATING COMPOSITE FRICTION PART
Disclosed is a self-lubricating composite friction part (1) that can be subjected, during operation, to temperatures that are at least equal to 250 C. The part includes, along the friction surface (2), a single layer of a material consisting of weft and warp yarns made of polytetrafluoroethylene, the material being impregnated with a thermostable resin having a glass transition temperature that is at least equal to 250 C. It is applied to a reinforcing layer (3).

BEARING DEVICE WITH INTEGRATED ELECTRICAL INSULATION, IN PARTICULAR FOR ELECTRIC MOTOR OR ELECTRIC MACHINE
A bearing device includes a first ring and a second ring configured to rotate relative to one another and an insulating sleeve formed from a bushing and an electrically insulating lining. The lining is overmolded on the bushing and on the second ring and connects the bushing to the second ring. The radial internal or external surface of the bushing incudes at least one helicoidal groove and the lining incudes at least one fastening rib having a shape complementary to a shape of the at least one helicoidal groove that extends into the at least one helicoidal groove. The helicoidal groove extends circumferentially at least 360 degrees around the radial internal or external surface of the bushing or the radial internal surface of the bushing.
