BORON NITRIDE NANOTUBE VIBRATION DAMPING OPTIMIZATION

The structural integrity and viscoelastic performance of boron nitride nanotube (BNNT) materials may be improved through forming a compressed BNNT buckyweave. The BNNT buckyweave may be formed from a BNNT buckypaper having a bulk nanotube alignment (partial alignment) that may be maintained when forming the BNNT buckyweave, and compression may be parallel to and/or perpendicular to the partial alignment. The BNNT material may be viscoelastically-enhanced through, e.g., selection of synthesized BNNT material, impurity removal/reduction, BNNT alignment, isotopically enhancement, and compression relative to alignment. BNNT buckyweave s are introduced. The present approach provides viscoelastic behavior over temperatures from near absolute zero to near 1900 K. The transport of phonons along the BNNT molecules may be enhanced by utilizing isotopically enhanced BNNTs.

An upper-extremity prosthetic is adapted to engage with an athletic ball. The prosthetic includes one or more springs that provide energy return as a user is throwing the ball using the prosthetic. The springs can have a conductivity that changes in relation to an amount of strain or deformation of the spring. The change in conductivity can be used to provide haptic feedback to the user so the user can sense the amount of force being applied to throw the ball. In some embodiments, the springs are made by a multi-material 3D printing (additive manufacturing) process and include a first material that is electrically non-conductive and a second material that electrically conductive. In some embodiments, the prosthetic also includes one or more cantilevered springs that are also adapted to engage with the ball and to provide energy return while throwing the ball.

Self-adjusting damping vibration absorber for while-drilling instruments and adjusting method thereof

The present application relates to self-adjusting damping vibration absorbers, in particular to a self-adjusting damping vibration absorber for while-drilling instruments and an adjusting method thereof. The self-adjusting damping vibration absorber includes a vibration monitor and controller tool and a vibration absorber body. The vibration monitor and controller tool is mounted inside the downhole while-drilling instrument, one end of the vibration absorber body is connected to the vibration monitor and controller tool through an insulating connector, the joint is provided with an insulating pad, the other end is connected to a sensor or circuit board tool that needs vibration damping, and the inside of the vibration absorber body is provided with a damping adjustment layer made of an electroactive polymer. By controlling the magnitude of an applied voltage, the damping adjustment can be realized, and the damping adjustment layer has the characteristics of high response speed and high control precision. The self-adjusting damping vibration absorber of the present application can adjust the vibration absorber damping according to the changes of the downhole vibration and temperature, so that the vibration absorber inherent frequency avoids or is far away from the vibration frequency of the downhole while-drilling instrument so as to avoid resonance, and thereby, the vibration absorber achieves the best vibration damping effect.

Dispensing pump with polymer spring, base venting and flow baffle

A dispensing pump includes a polymer compression spring assembly, base vents and a flow baffle. The dispensing pump includes a pump base, and a dispensing head having a piston stem. The polymer compression spring assembly includes a slotted tubular spring element and first and second loading cones received at opposing ends of the slotted tubular spring element. The venting ports allow air to escape when capping the container after filling and the flow baffle reduces or prevents the product from being pulled into the pump accumulator before residual air (headspace) has been evacuated from the container during the initial priming strokes.
