Combination gas spring and damper
10578182 · 2020-03-03 · ·

Housing has first and second parallel tubular chambers. The first chamber contains a gas spring whose output shaft connects to a first piston of area A.sub.1. The second chamber contains a second piston of area A.sub.2<A.sub.1. Piston A.sub.2 connects to the device's output shaft. The housing has a valve block with an internal port in fluid communication with the two chambers between the first and second pistons. The valve block contains an incompressible fluid. A poppet valve is in the internal port. The poppet includes a flow restricting bore therethrough. A force on the output shaft causes the fluid to force open the poppet and displace the piston, A.sub.1, storing energy in the gas spring. Upon removal of the force on the device's output shaft, the gas spring pushes the fluid to close the poppet. Hence, only a low volume flow through the bore in the poppet is permitted.

There is also provided a method of designing an air spring using an adsorptive material to lower the spring rate.

Active damping system for suspended ride system

An automated damping system including a damping device arranged and disposed to provide variable resistance to a load. The variable resistance provides resistance values corresponding to a displacement position of the damping device. The system includes a damping profile generator that calculates a damping profile and a sensor is arranged and disposed to measure one or more damping affecting properties. The sensor provides the one or more damping affecting properties to the damping profile generator. The damping profile provides the variable resistance based upon the one or more damping affecting properties of the load.

Method for determining, predicting and correcting breakout friction errors influencing aircraft telescopic landing gear strut pressures

Aircraft landing gear strut breakout friction values are used to correct measured strut pressure as related to the amount of weight supported; with the ability to generate and refine the breakout friction value database, and ability to predict a future breakout friction correction value by trending historical measurements, as compared to recent measurements, as further compared to real-time breakout friction values. The system is used in monitoring, measuring, computing and displaying the weight and center of gravity for aircraft utilizing telescopic oleo landing gear struts. Pressure sensors, temperature sensors, humidity sensors, axle deflection sensors, accelerometers, inclinometers are mounted in relation to each of the landing gear struts to monitor, measure and record strut pressure as related to strut telescopic movement, rates of strut telescopic movement, axle deflection, current temperature, current relative humidity, vertical acceleration; experienced by landing gear struts, as the aircraft proceeds through typical ground and flight operations.

Multiple stage air shock
11892053 · 2024-02-06 ·

Disclosed herein is a process suitable for constructing a multiple stage air shock. The multiple stage air shock is unique among shocks in that the multiple stage design possesses qualities not available to other shock absorbers. The process includes a means for determining the compressed and extended lengths of the air shock based on the lengths of the parts for each stage. This means refers to one methodology and offers the air shock an extended length that is greater than twice its compressed length, an optimized extended length, and a construction capability based on adding stages. In particular, the extended length-compressed length relationship is a quality inherently unobtainable by current shock absorbers. The process also includes a means of determining the spring rate. This means refers to a second methodology and offers the capability to both set-up the air shock with a relatively linear spring rate and make the relatively linear spring rate more linear.

DUAL-STAGE, MIXED GAS/FLUID SHOCK STRUT SERVICING

A method for servicing a dual-stage, mixed gas/fluid shock strut may comprise measuring a servicing temperature, charging a secondary gas chamber with compressed gas, wherein a secondary chamber pressure corresponds to the servicing temperature, pumping oil into a primary chamber of the shock strut, and charging the primary chamber with compressed gas.

METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR SUSPENSION ADJUSTMENT

A shock absorber includes a gas spring cylinder containing a piston moveable between an extended position and a compressed position within the gas spring cylinder. A mechanical actuator is arranged whereby a bleed port is automatically closed when the gas spring is compressed to a predetermined position corresponding to a desired sag setting. In one embodiment, the position corresponds to a predetermined sag setting whereby the gas spring is partially compressed. In another embodiment, a proper sag setting is determined through the use of a processor and sensor that in one instance measure a position of shock absorber components to dictate a proper sag setting and in another instance calculate a pressure corresponding to a preferred sag setting.
