ROLLER-BASED DRIVE SYSTEMS

An electric taxi system (ETS) for an aircraft includes rollers attached circumferentially to a wheel of the aircraft, and a sprocket with circumferentially distributed teeth attached to a sprocket-tooth ring. The sprocket has a hub with an axis of rotation that is parallel to an axis of rotation of the wheel of the aircraft. The sprocket includes a flexible member interposed between the hub and the sprocket-tooth ring. A radial axis of at least one tooth of the sprocket is substantially perpendicular with an axis of rotation of at least one of the rollers even if the at least one of the rollers is non-parallel to the axis of rotation of the wheel of the aircraft.

Self aligning gear

A self-aligning gear includes a toothed ring gear having inner gear teeth alternating with inner grooves on an inner circumference and outer gear teeth on an outer circumference, a spline gear having spline teeth alternating with spline grooves on an outer circumference, wherein the spline teeth fit in the inner grooves of the toothed ring gear, and a curved-faces pin assembly including a cylindrical pin having semicircular ends and an elastomeric material pattern which conforms to the shape of the spline grooves and inner grooves. The grooves have either trapezoidal walls or semicylindrical walls. The self-aligning gear also includes a locking assembly with a flanged hub and threaded disc to secure the components. The elastomeric material provides alignment compensation through controlled deformation while maintaining torque transfer capability. The self-aligning gear compensates for misalignment in gear transmissions, extending operational life while maintaining power transmission efficiency.

Gear system with compliant anti-backlash features

Gear systems provide backlash control at low loading and effective load carrying at increased loading. A gear system with backlash control includes at least two meshing gears. One of the gears has a gear section configured for carrying loads and another gear section configured to control backlash. The gear sections are connected together by a compliant section that has features that reduce stiffness so that the gear sections are moveable relative to each other. One gear section is biased relative to the other gear section so that its teeth are preloaded against the teeth of the first gear.
