WELDED TORQUE CONVERTER COMPONENT

A method of forming a welded connection between a hub and a plate component in a transmission assembly is provided. The method includes providing the plate component which includes a radially extending portion and an opening in a connection region to the hub, forming a flare bevel with an axial extension that extends beyond a projection of a thickness of the radially extending portion of the plate component at the opening, locating the plate component with the flare bevel and at least a portion of the axial extension on the hub, welding in a recess formed between the flare bevel and the hub to connect the plate component to the hub with the weld, and removing at least a portion of the axial extension after the welding.

REDUCED VOLUME TORQUE CONVERTER HAVING INVERTED COVER CLOSURE

A housing for a torque converter comprising: an axis of rotation; a cover including: a first inner surface; a first outer surface opposite the first inner surface; a first axially extending necked portion radially outward relative to the axis of rotation and parallel to the axis of rotation, an impeller shell non-rotatably connected to the cover and having: a second inner surface; a second outer surface opposite the second inner surface; a second axially extending necked portion radially outward relative to the first axially extending necked portion; a line orthogonal to the axis of rotation passes through the first and second axially extending necked portions; and, a weld fixedly securing the first inner surface to the second inner surface at at least one point on the line. A torque converter including such a housing closure is also described.

TORQUE CONVERTER DEVICE, IN PARTICULAR FOR A DRIVE TRAIN OF A MOTOR VEHICLE

A torque converter device for a drivetrain of a motor vehicle includes a converter cover having a cover shell and a hub rigidly connected to the cover shell. The torque converter device also includes at least one multidisk clutch, which includes at least one inner disk-centering member. The hub integrally forms the inner disk-centering member of the multidisk clutch.

HYBRID MODULE

A hybrid module for a vehicle includes a torque converter and an electric motor. The torque converter includes an impeller shell and a cover. The cover is fixed to the impeller shell to form at least a portion of an outer shell for the torque converter. The electric motor includes a rotor supported on a rotor carrier. The cover and the rotor carrier are integrally formed from a same piece of material. In an example embodiment, the hybrid module includes a resolver rotor fixed to the rotor carrier. In some example embodiments, the hybrid module includes a cover disk, fixed to the rotor carrier and extending radially inward to form a portion of the outer shell.

A torque converter assembly having a cover including a tubular body, and a pump including a shell. The shell of the pump is received in the tubular body of the cover, and the shell of the pump is joined to the cover with a circumferential weld. The tubular body of the cover can include a circumferentially extending groove, and the circumferential weld can be at least partially aligned in an axial direction with the groove.

The torque transmission assembly (20) does not comprise a torsional vibration damper arrangement, and/or the deflection mass carrier (52) is connected to the housing (26) so as to be fixed with respect to rotation relative to the housing for corotation around the rotational axis (A).

TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY

The torque converter can include a turbine and a secondary component configured to be connected to the turbine. The connection interface between the turbine and the secondary component can be provided solely via deformation of a portion of the turbine, such as an integrally formed flange, such that the turbine and the secondary component are connected with each other.
