Torsional vibration reduction device for torque converter
A torsional vibration reduction device provided inside a torque converter includes rolling elements, a plate, and a cover. The plate includes rolling chambers housing the rolling elements. The cover encloses and shields the rolling elements and the plate from a working fluid surrounding the torsional vibration reduction device inside the torque converter. The cover includes first and second covers that are joined together with the plate held between the first and second covers. The first and second covers contact the plate in an axial direction of the torque converter at locations that are, with respect to an axis of the torque converter, on an inner peripheral side and on an outer peripheral side of the rolling chambers. Surfaces of the first and second covers are joined to the plate at least at part of the locations where the first and second covers contact the plate.

A torque-coupling device for coupling driving and driven shafts. The torque-coupling device comprises a casing having a locking surface, a torque converter, a locking piston having an engagement surface axially movable to and from the locking surface of the casing and a torsional vibration damper. The torsional vibration damper comprises a torque input member and a unitary radially elastic output member elastically coupled to the torque input member. The torque input member includes a radially oriented first retainer plate and at least one supporting member mounted thereto. The output member includes an output hub and an elastic leaf configured to elastically engage the supporting member upon rotation of the first retainer plate with respect to the output member. The output hub is configured for directly and non-rotatably engaging a driven shaft. The locking piston is non-rotatably connected to the torque input member of the torsional vibration damper.

A torque converter comprising: first and second cover plates arranged to receive torque; a flange; a turbine shell independently rotatable relative to the flange; at least one resilient element, at least partially disposed axially between the first and second cover plates, for transmitting a torque force between the flange and the first and second cover plates; a first axial gap, disposed between the flange and the first cover plate, having a first width; a second axial gap, disposed between the flange and the second cover plate, having a second width; one of the first cover plate or the second cover plate having at least one ramp protruding in an axial direction toward the flange, the ramp rotatably engageable with the flange for urging the flange axially in a direction toward the cover, and for transmitting an axial force for urging a clutch to engage.

A thrust washer for a torque converter is provided. The thrust washer includes an inner circumferential surface, an outer circumferential surface and a first axial surface extending from the inner circumferential surface to the outer circumferential surface. The axial surface includes a plurality of arcuate sections and a plurality of grooves circumferentially between the arcuate sections. Each of the arcuate sections includes an arcuate axial surface including a first section, a second section and a third section. The first and third sections extend circumferentially away from the second section in opposite directions and extend axially inward from the second section. A torque converter and a method for forming at least one torque converter are also provided.
Vibration damping device
A vibration damping device in which vibration damping performance of a damper having a chamber holding a rolling member is improved. The vibration damping device is adapted to damp vibrations resulting from a pulsation of torque applied to a rotary member by an oscillating motion of a rolling member connected with the rotary member while being allowed to rotate relatively therewith. The vibration damping device is provided with a casing member enclosing the rolling member, and a sealing member that connects the casing member with the rotary member in a manner such that the rotary member is allowed to rotate relatively with the casing member, while preventing oil from entering into an inner space of the casing member where the rolling member is held to oscillate.
Torque converter turbine including core ring having thinned sections
A torque converter turbine core ring is provided. The turbine core ring includes a plurality of arc sections having an inner circumference and an outer circumference and a plurality of weakened sections connecting the arc sections to each other. The weakened sections each having a lesser strength than each of the arc sections. A torque converter turbine, a torque converter and a method of forming a torque converter turbine are also provided.
LOCK-UP DEVICE FOR TORQUE CONVERTER
A lock-up device transmits a torque through a turbine of a torque converter. The lock-up device includes a friction surface, a clutch disc, a piston and a pressure plate. The friction surface is provided on a lateral surface of a front cover. The clutch disc has an annular shape and is capable of being pressed in contact with the friction surface. The piston is disposed between the front cover and the turbine. The piston is movable in an axial direction. The pressure plate has an annular shape. The pressure plate is disposed between the piston and the clutch disc, and presses the clutch disc toward the front cover by a pressing force to be applied thereto from the piston. The pressure plate has a lower bending stiffness than the piston, and is deformable in accordance with deformation of the front cover when pressed toward the front cover by the piston.
THRUST WASHER INCLUDING RADIALLY EXTENDING CONNECTORS
A thrust washer is provided. The thrust washer includes an annular base including a radially extending thrust surface, a further radially extending surface on an opposite side of the annular base from the radially extending thrust surface, an outer circumferential surface extending axially from the radially extending thrust surface to the further radially extending surface and an inner circumferential surface extending axially from the radially extending thrust surface to the further radially extending surface. The thrust washer also includes radially extending connectors extending radially outward from the annular base. A motor vehicle drivetrain assembly, a torque converter and a method of connecting a thrust washer to a component are also provided.
LOCK-UP DEVICE FOR TORQUE CONVERTER
A lock-up device transmits a torque and includes a clutch disc, a piston, a cover plate and a support boss. The clutch disc is disposed between a front cover and a turbine. The piston is disposed between the front cover and the turbine. The piston is movable in an axial direction. The cover plate is disposed between the piston and the turbine, and includes a torque transmission part in an outer peripheral part thereof so as to transmit the torque to the clutch disc. The support boss has an annular shape. The support boss is fixed to an inner peripheral part of the front cover and includes a piston support part and a coupling part. The piston support part supports an inner peripheral end surface of the piston such that the piston is slidable thereon. The coupling part receives an inner peripheral part of the cover plate coupled thereto.
Torsional vibration damper for hydrokinetic torque coupling device
A hydrokinetic torque coupling device comprises a casing rotatable about a rotation axis, a torque converter including an impeller wheel and a turbine wheel disposed in the casing coaxially with the rotation axis, a turbine hub disposed in the casing coaxially with the rotation axis and fixed to the turbine wheel, and a torsional vibration damper. The torsional vibration damper comprises a driven member fixed to the turbine hub, a back plate rotatably mounted to the turbine hub, a plurality of circumferentially acting elastic members, and a damper retainer plate rotatably mounted to the back plate coaxially with the rotation axis. The back plate has a plurality of window-shaped openings separated circumferentially from one another by radial tabs. The elastic members are interposed between the driven member and the back plate in the window-shaped openings. The damper retainer plate is operatively connected to the elastic members.
