System and methods of adjusting a transmission shift schedule
A method for a vehicle includes receiving a shift schedule for a transmission of a vehicle, the shift schedule indicating when shift events occur based on operation of the vehicle. The method further includes receiving vehicle operation data during operation of the vehicle. The method further includes determining a power to overcome vehicle losses based on the vehicle operation data. The method further includes determining an adjustment to the shift schedule to optimize a vehicle operating parameter based on the determined power to overcome vehicle losses and implementing the adjustment to the shift schedule.
HYDRAULIC CONTROL DEVICE AND HYDRAULIC CONTROL METHOD FOR VEHICLE
The hydraulic control device includes: a mechanical variable-capacity oil pump; and an electronic control unit configured to calculate a target discharge volume of the mechanical variable-capacity oil pump using a plurality of parameters of the transmission, and control the mechanical variable-capacity oil pump based on the target discharge volume.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR DYNAMIC GEAR STATE AND VEHICLE SPEED MANAGEMENT
According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a control system, apparatus, and method includes dynamic optimization of at least one of a vehicle reference speed and/or transmission gear state of a vehicle by determining current and future engine power requirements from the current and forward-looking route conditions to improve performance, drivability, and/or fuel economy of the vehicle over what is achievable through conventional gear state selection via static calibration tables and conventional shifting strategies. The selection of the vehicle reference speed and gear state can be performed independently of one another in one embodiment, and complementary of one another in another embodiment.
SYSTEM AND METHOD TO CONTROL THE OPERATION OF A TRANSMISSION USING ENGINE FUEL CONSUMPTION DATA
A system and method of controlling the operation of a transmission using fuel consumption data. The system and method includes controlling the operation of a vehicle transmission which is operatively connected to an engine having operating characteristics and operatively connected to a transmission control module having access to a memory. Fuel consumption data for an engine is converted to engine efficiency loss data representative of the engine operating. A set of equations is determined to provide a pattern representative of the operating characteristics the engine. A transmission controller using the pattern determines a prospective operating condition of the transmission to provide fuel efficient operation of the engine.
Systems and methods for shifting multi-speed transmissions
A method for shifting a multi-speed transmission of a marine propulsion device between a first gear and a second gear each configured to transmit torque from a powerhead to a transmission output shaft. The method includes determining an actual power level requested for operating the marine propulsion device and measuring a transmission output shaft speed in which the transmission output shaft is rotating. The method further includes comparing the actual power level to a shift threshold, the shift threshold corresponding to expected power levels for operating the marine propulsion device as a function of the transmission output shaft speed of the transmission output shaft. The method further includes controlling the multi-speed transmission to shift when the actual power is outside the shift threshold.
A set of polynomials is determined to provide a pattern representative of the operating characteristics the engine. A transmission controller using the pattern determines a prospective operating condition of the transmission to provide fuel efficient operation of the engine.
Control method for a powertrain for a vehicle and correspondingly controlled powertrain
A control method is provided for a powertrain in a vehicle, the powertrain including an engine mechanically connected to a gearbox and an Electronic Control Unit (ECU), wherein the method includes allowing an extraordinary gear shift in spite of a first torque comparison indicating an expected engine output torque demand above a first general limit for allowed output torque associated with the extraordinary gear shift provided that: a second torque comparison indicates that the expected engine output torque demand after the extraordinary gear shift is within the limits of a second temporarily increased allowed engine output torque limit; and an extraordinary gear shift criteria is fulfilled indicating a gear shift is allowed the criteria being dependent on at least one parameter chosen among estimated fuel efficiency, engine efficiency, expected future torque demand, time of running the engine above the general engine torque limit and engine temperature.
SYSTEM AND METHOD TO CONTROL THE OPERATION OF TRANSMISSION USING ENGINE FUEL CONSUMPTION DATA
A set of polynomials is determined to provide a pattern representative of the operating characteristics the engine. A transmission controller using the pattern determines a prospective operating condition of the transmission to provide fuel efficient operation of the engine.
Systems and methods for shifting multi-speed transmissions
A method for shifting a marine propulsion device transmission between first and second gears transmitting torque from a powerhead with a redline RPM. The transmission has a transition time for completing a shift. The method includes measuring an RPM of the powerhead, comparing the RPM to a first threshold, and starting a timer when the RPM exceeds the first threshold. The method includes measuring the RPM of the powerhead after the first threshold is exceeded, comparing the RPM to a second threshold, stopping the timer when the RPM exceeds the second threshold, determining an elapsed time between starting and stopping the timer, and determining a shift RPM based on the determined elapsed time, the redline RPM, and the transition time of the transmission. The method includes controlling the transmission to shift when the RPM measured for the powerhead reaches the shift RPM such that shifting completes before the redline RPM.
Hybrid electric vehicle control for minimizing high voltage battery power limits violations
A control system and method for controlling a hybrid electric vehicle powertrain with mechanical and electro-mechanical power sources that use an intelligent controller adapted to reduce driveline oscillations while minimizing hybrid vehicle battery limit violations.
