In one example embodiment, a packing ring is disclosed including first and second axial ring ends, at least three ring segments, and at least three relief openings. The at least three relief openings each have a first relief opening end opening into the radially inside inner circumferential surface of the ring segment. The first relief opening ends of two relief openings arranged adjacent to one another in the circumferential direction are spaced apart from one another at a relief opening circumferential distance. The first relief opening ends are closer in the axial direction to the first axial ring end than to the second axial ring end and are spaced apart at a relief opening axial distance from the first axial ring end, which is 4% to 20% of the axial ring width of the ring segment.

A recessed part formed on a side surface includes a dynamic pressure part extending in the circumferential direction to converge on the side surface, and an introduction part extending from the dynamic pressure to open the dynamic pressure part toward the inner periphery side. One or two inner peripheral wall parts are provided for each of the recessed parts. The inner peripheral wall part is a portion defined on the inner periphery side of the corresponding recessed part by the dynamic pressure part and the introduction part. The inner peripheral wall part includes an inner peripheral wall surface. The inner peripheral wall surface extends toward the introduction part in the circumferential direction with inclining with respect to the side surface such that the inner peripheral wall surface is depressed from the side surface.

Circumferential Seal Assembly with Adjustable Seating Forces

A circumferential seal assembly for use between a higher pressure side and a lower pressure side is presented. The seal assembly includes a primary sealing ring, a second sealing ring, a third sealing ring, and an insert. The segmented primary sealing ring sealingly engages both a face sealing surface along a housing and a radial sealing surface along a rotatable element. The insert is disposed within and directly contacts the housing. The second sealing ring is adjacent to the primary sealing ring and sealingly engages both the primary sealing ring and the insert. The segmented third sealing ring contacts and sealingly engages the primary sealing ring opposite the housing. The insert, the second sealing ring, and the third sealing ring cooperate to form a first cavity adjacent to the second sealing ring and the third sealing ring. The primary sealing ring, the second sealing ring, the insert, and the housing cooperate to form a second cavity adjacent to the primary sealing ring. The insert and the second sealing ring separate the first cavity from the second cavity.

A gas compressor compressing gas includes a cylinder liner, a piston member, and a first sliding member. The piston member includes a piston reciprocating in an inner space of the cylinder liner, and a piston rod connected to the piston. The first sliding member is made of a resin, has a ring shape, and is provided on one of the piston member and the cylinder liner. The first sliding member slides relatively against a reception member while another of the piston member and the cylinder liner serves as the reception member that receives sliding. An amorphous carbon film is formed on a sliding surface of each of the first sliding member and the reception member. A carbon content in the amorphous carbon film formed on each of the sliding surfaces is larger in its surface part than in its inner part on an inner side of the surface part.

RADIAL SEAL ARRANGEMENT

A seal assembly includes a rotating seal runner having an outer radial surface, and one or more rotationally stationary seal rings located radially outboard of the seal runner. Each seal ring has an inner radial surface, with the inner radial surface and the outer radial surface defining a sealing interface therebetween. An axially extending shape of the inner radial surface is selected utilizing a predicted shape of the outer radial surface at a selected operating condition of the seal assembly.

A gas processing system includes a vessel defining a cavity for processing a gas. The vessel includes a process gas inlet for accepting process gas at an input pressure, and a process gas outlet for discharging process gas at an output pressure. The gas processing system further includes a shaft coupled to the vessel and a multistage sealing system comprising multiple seals spaced along the shaft. The shaft is configured to transfer mechanical energy to or from gas in the vessel. Each adjacent pair of seals defines a corresponding pressure space therebetween. One of the pressure spaces is an equalizing pressure space in hydraulic communication with the process gas inlet via a flow line, such that in operation, pressure in the equalizing pressure space is maintained at an equalized pressure with respect to a pressure in the process gas inlet.
