Depressurization system for an electrical transformer

A depressurization system for an electrical transformer includes a pressure release assembly configured to be in fluid communication with a chamber of the electrical transformer. The pressure release assembly includes a rupture pin valve. The system may include an evacuation assembly having a blast chamber. The rupture pin valve includes a pin configured to buckle in response to a predetermined pressure applied to a surface of the rupture pin valve.

Freeze tolerant ball valve

A freeze tolerant ball valve for controlling the direction of expansion of freezing water within the ball valve is disclosed. The valve includes valve body inlet and the valve body outlet, and a spherical-shaped gate that has an axial fluid passage that extends through the spherical-shaped gate. The spherical-shaped gate can be rotated to block fluid communication between the valve body inlet and the valve body outlet. The valve body also has a first sidewall that is of a first sidewall thickness, and a sidewall having a boss that supports a concave cap that has a bottom wall that is of a bottom wall thickness, the bottom wall thickness being substantially thinner than the sidewall thickness. The cooperation of the passage through the spherical-shaped gate, the first sidewall with its first sidewall thickness positioned opposite to the bottom wall of the concave cap results in a valve that directs the effects of freezing on to the concave cap, which would fail first in the event of freezing. The cap can be easily and quickly replaced in the event of failure.

Membrane puncturing mechanism

A membrane puncturing mechanism comprises a first element and a second element arranged with opposing surfaces. At least one opposing surface comprises a sloping region inclined relative to the other opposing surface. The first element is moveable towards and away from the second element. A pin for puncturing a membrane is coupled to the first element such that movement of one of the pin and first element causes movement of both. A spring is operable to bias the first element towards the second element. An actuator is removably positioned between the opposing surfaces, the actuator being withdrawable from between and moveable along the opposing surfaces such that, as the actuator is withdrawn, the actuator progressively moves the first and second elements apart against the bias of the spring so as to load the spring and such that the actuator being fully withdrawn from between the opposing surfaces.

FUSE PIN VALVE

A fuse pin valve includes a housing, a piston, and a mechanical fuse, such as a fuse pin. As assembled, the piston is movably disposed in the housing and is retained in a static position by the fuse pin. Upon a certain pressure (e.g., an abnormal pressure) acting on the piston, the fuse pin fails, thereby releasing the piston to move from a first or start position to second or end position. In the start position of the piston, the valve is in a first operational state (e.g., a closed state). In the end position of the piston, the valve is in a second operational state (e.g., an open state, fully open states, etc.). In other embodiments, in the start position of the piston the valve is in an open state, and in the end position of the piston the valve is in a closed state.

Valves having flexible membranes

Fluid apparatus and related methods are disclosed. An example fluid apparatus includes a body defining a fluid flow path between an inlet and an outlet. A flow control member is positioned in the fluid flow path. The flow control member has a base pivotally coupled to an inner wall of the body defining the fluid flow path. The flow control member has an annular tip that is to flex between an open position to allow fluid flow through the fluid flow path and a closed position to prevent fluid flow through the fluid flow path.
