Pipe couplers and methods

A pipe coupler for coupling a first pipe to a second pipe comprises: a body; a first flange and a second flange; and a gasket. The body, first flange, second flange, and gasket are dimensioned to have an assembled condition. The gasket, first flange, and second flange are coaxial. The gasket is axially sandwiched between an inboard face of the first flange and an inboard face of the second flange. The body encircles the gasket, first flange, and second flange and has a first portion axially outboard of the first flange and a second portion axially outboard of the second flange.

Gasket

There is provided a gasket (100) for sealing two mating surfaces, the gasket comprising: a rigid non-metal core (102) defining an aperture (104), the core comprising a first face (106) extending away from the aperture and a second face (122) opposite the first face; and at least one sealing layer (108); wherein the first face comprises: a substantially flat inner region (112) defining a plane; and a serrated region (110) comprising a plurality of serrations (118) that extend substantially perpendicular to the plane, wherein the substantially flat inner region is located between the aperture and the serrated region, wherein the serrations are recessed in the first face such that they do not cross the plane, wherein the at least one sealing layer overlays at least part of the serrated region of the first face.

Gasket and flow passage joint structure

A tapered surface is formed at each axially outer end portion of an inner circumferential surface of a gasket such that a diameter thereof gradually increases from an axially inner side toward an axially outer end thereof in a state before an annular primary sealing portion of the gasket is press-fitted into an annular primary sealing groove of a fluid device. A diameter increase starting point of the tapered surface is located in a range from a deformation starting point position serving as a starting point from which the inner circumferential surface is deformed due to the primary sealing portion receiving external force form the fluid device when the primary sealing portion is press-fitted into the primary sealing groove, to a center position in an axial direction of the inner circumferential surface.

A coupling which can enhance safety will be provided, when the coupling, a hose, and the like are exposed to high pressure for some reasons or other while in use, by leaking the high pressure fluid to the outside to open a sealing portion of the coupling at a stage where the coupling condition between the couplings is maintained, and decreases the pressure. Further, the coupling can warn the operator or the like of the abnormality by ejecting a fluid from a leak path or a fluid ejection port.

A hose assembly includes a fitting including a fitting end received in a shell. A sealing element is located at a junction between the fitting and the shell. The first fitting end has a nipple and the shell has an angled end that define a sealing space, and the sealing element is positioned within the sealing space. External pressure at the junction compresses the sealing element within the sealing space to form an energized seal. The shell may include a first shell end and a second shell end, the fitting end of the fitting being received within the first shell end of the shell. The shell my include a plurality of barbs that extend radially inward from an inner diameter of the shell that can grip into a hose, and a barb located closest to the shell end extends radially inward a smaller distance than other barbs to provide a barrier against ingression of contaminants.

A coupling has an engagement face of a engagement hook which is set at an angle in a range where the engagement face is still inclined at a positive angle to be maintained a coupling state of the couplings, even if a fluid leaks by opening the sealing portion of the couplings at a state where the coupling state is maintained or even if a hose or the like fitted to the coupling is burst when the coupling, the hose, etc., are applied the high pressure for some reason or other while in use.
