The two inner sealing deformable layers are configured to compress a greater amount than the two outer sealing deformable layers when a compressive force is applied. In a compressed configuration, the two inner sealing deformable layers fill in the crevices of the mating surfaces of a corroded flange connection thereby avoiding immediate maintenance for the damaged flanges. The inner and outer rings have grooves and ridges on upper and lower surfaces to retain and receive portions of the inner and outer sealing deformable layers in a sealed flange connection.

A seal is positioned within a channel defined by arcuate keys which surround the receptacles. The seal has a body which defines a first aperture aligned with the receptacles and a second aperture aligned with the bore of the nipple.

A connector seal pack spacer and assembly are employed for use in a fluid line quick connector in an automotive application, for instance. The spacer is located beside an o-ring in installation in the fluid line quick connector. The spacer is designed and constructed with an angled surface that, upon insertion of a spigot in the fluid line quick connector, works to maintain an intended position of the o-ring in the fluid line quick connector. Unwanted mispositioning and dislodging of the o-ring is hence minimized and, in some cases, altogether precluded.

A seal for use in a vacuum pump comprises a seal element positioned between inner and outer seal carriers located at the inner and outer surfaces of the seal element. Each of the seal element and carriers is substantially toroidal in shape. The outer carrier comprises retention means to hold the seal element in position. The inner carrier comprises at least one recess located in a surface adjacent to the seal element, and the seal element comprises at least one protrusion on an inner surface, which extends into the at least one recess of the inner carrier. A seal system comprises the described seal and first and second flanges. Methods for enhancing the chemical resistance of a seal system for use in a vacuum pump, and the use of the seal or seal system to connect pipework, are also provided.
