A patch for a pipe includes a patch body that has an outer surface and an inner surface. The patch body is curved to correspond to the curvature of a pipe that may include a defect that is desired to be sealed. A plug extends from the inner surface of the patch and the plug is configured to fit within the defect while the inner surface of the patch is in contact with an outer diameter of the pipe. The patch is adhered to the pipe using a primer and an adhesive that is applied to the outer diameter of the pipe surrounding the defect, the inner surface of the patch, or to both surfaces. Attachment straps may wrap around the pipe and the patch as the adhesive sets to maintain contact between the pipe and the patch.

The solder is disposed over at least a portion of the outer surface of the pinhole patch that bonds the pinhole patch at least to the pinhole surface that defines the pinhole. A subassembly is also disclosed. The subassembly includes a pinhole patch and flux.

A mechanical seal assembly for plugging an opening in a tubular object by contacting an inner circumferential surface of the tubular object includes a stopper configured for insertion into an interior of the tubular object for plugging the opening. The stopper includes a surface configured for matching the inner circumferential surface of the tubular object. The mechanical seal assembly also includes a fastener passing through a hole in the stopper such that the fastener is actuatable from outside of the tubular object to force the surface of the stopper against the inner circumferential surface of the tubular object.
