A removable pipe insulation system comprising one or more components, each component comprising insulation in a waterproof covering with at least one opening for air to exit the covering during use. The insulation in the covering may be surrounded by an inside skin with a plurality of holes formed through hot micro perforation. The inside skin may be surrounded by an outside cover, which may be edged in elastic binding and which may attach to itself by hook and loop fastener. The component may be wrapped around a pipe element and secured to provide insulation to the pipe element while protecting the insulation from moisture and protecting the pipe element from corrosion under insulation.

FILAMENT REINFORCED TAPES USEFUL AS UNDERWATER PIPE WRAP

A member for use in undersea applications comprising a plurality of conduits assembled into a bundle; the bundle being wrapped with a pressure-sensitive tape comprising a backing, a layer of corrosion-resistant filaments on one surface of the backing, and pressure-sensitive adhesive layer that coats the filaments and binds them to the backing.

METHOD FOR STRENGTHENING A POLYETHYLENE TUBULAR MEMBER

A method for strengthening a polyethylene tubular member. The polyethylene tubular member has an outer surface, a circumference, a wall thickness, and an area to be strengthened and the outer surface of the polyethylene tubular member contains polyethylene. The method contains the step of wrapping a fabric layer around the circumference of the tubular member at least two full rotations and covering the area to be strengthened. The fabric layer contains a plurality of interwoven tape elements with a base layer of a strain oriented olefin polymer disposed between covering layers of a heat fusible olefin polymer. The method also contains the step of applying heat and optionally pressure to the fabric layer bonding the tape elements of the fabric layer together and bonding the tape elements and the tubular member together.

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING REINFORCED THERMOPLASTIC PIPES
20180328521 · 2018-11-15 · ·

A process for manufacturing pipes using thermoplastic pipe and tape (continuous fiber, fully wetted in a similar thermoplastic as the pipe) that embeds the fibers into pipe surface. In one embodiment, an ambient temperature (72 degrees F.) tape is tightly wrapped around the cold pipe in a dry environment (relative humidity below 30). An external heat source is used to heat up the entire length of the pipe causing the thermoplastic to melt and the pipe to expand due to thermal expansion. Since the fibers have less stretch than the thermal expansion of the pipe the fibers will be embedded into the molten layer of the pipe, creating a permanent bond between the fibers and the pipe. A protective film is applied to the pipe. Portions of the tape and film are scraped from the surface of the pipe creating an area where the end of the pipe is coupled to another pipe using an electronic fusion coupler.

A wrap tape cassette for a subsea pipeline repair or coating machine includes a drum for carrying a wrap tape wound on the drum. A housing defines an exit opening for the wrap tape to be dispensed from the drum onto a pipeline during a repair or coating operation. The drum may be mounted to the housing for rotational and longitudinal movement relative to the housing to dispense the wrap tape through the exit opening on being unwound from the drum. A leading end of the wrap tape may be attached to an anchor element that is arranged as a closure for the exit opening and, when moved from the exit opening, for attachment to a pipeline being repaired or coated.
